Go to printers and faxes (where the printer is displayed). make sure the printer is turned on. you should see a place which indicates some thing like get pictures from scanner. click on it to scan. additionally open my computer to see if the printer scanner image is showing. you right click and select get pictures using wizard from the right click context menu.
good luck

My brother printer MFC 420cn says it is not compatiable with windows 7

Hello,

The MFC-420CN is part of the BH3 series which brother did not develop drivers or software for compatible with Windows 7.

This does not mean it is not compatible though.
What this means is that you can only use the built in drivers with windows 7.

When you plug is with a USB cable, it should install automatically for printing and scanning.

If you are using a network, you can go through the add a printer in "Devices and printers" but wont be able to scan.

If WIndows does not give you the option to select the MFC-420CN, then you will need to complete a windows update to have the driver.

Thanks,

Pat

WINDOWS 7 COMPATIBLE?

Yes, just use Windows 7 Update function to install proper drivers automatically. The drivers provided by Brother on CD do not work, though.

Scaning

The link above will take you to a User's Manual for your particular All-In-One. On page 1-2 INTRODUCTION, it shows the button that needs to be pressed in order to access the Scan Mode of your MFC-420CN. Installed software that came with the model should open up when the button is pressed. If not, consult the manual on how to install the software again.

Or you may want to use existing Windows software (example: in Windows Vista, you can use Windows Fax and Scan).

Hope this helps! Give me a rating if it does, thanks!

I am having problems scanning from my mfc=420cn. I don't know how to scann to file on windows vista/ or microsoft word. It only lets scann to images

Try setting up the scanner in the scanners and camera control panel.... more than likely you are just hitting the scan button on the printer and it is using the defaults on the printer's installed software and is automatically sending it to your images folder. Maybe some clarification on exactly what you want to do?

If you have office, open microsoft document imaging and acquire the file that way ( acquire scan, and then cut and paste into word)

Scanning into OCR using a Vista PC

Try using the WindowsXP driver directly, click on 'continue anyway' and see if that works.
