Whenever I put a casset in, it will not decend into the camcorder and the door gets stuck. Very frustrating. Thinking they need a recall on this damn thing. It's rarely been used in all the time I have it and there should't be problems with it. Ridiculous!

If its not a setting problem, it may not be communicating with your computer properly, try turning it off, wait a little while and turn it back on, if that doesn't work delete your printer off your computer and re install it, Is it the default printer on your computer? some times if you run more than one printer from your computer there's a conflict which can make it behave in weird and wonderful ways.
There is a DEW sensor within the camera as a protection as when there is condensation due to cool condition within the tape can get chewed into the cylinder head drum.
So all what you need to do next time is to keep it in a warm place, use a hair dryer slighly into the door after ejecting tape or you can put the set On overnight without any harm.
When you travel keep the camera covered with a blanket and do not expose the camera to direct AC vent.
Most of the time this problem comes when the paper is not loaded correctly. Follow the below instructions to load papers to the cassette and I am sure this will resolve your problem. I will keep monitoring your responce and if required, i'll look for a work arround.
Follow this procedure to load paper / envelope in the cassette:
Pull out the cassette from the machine.
Remove the cover from the cassette.
Fan out the sheets of paper so that they do not stick together.
Align the edges of the paper.
If the cassette is not yet extended, use your thumb to press the tab (indicated by the pink circular outline) and release the latch.
After the latch is released, remove your thumb from the tab. Then extend the cassette until a click is heard.
Load paper on the upper-right corner of the cassette with the print side facing down.
Note: * Since the Credit Card sized paper, Canon Photo Stickers, and Legal sized paper cannot be fed from the cassette, load them in the auto sheet feeder (ASF). * When loading A5 or larger sized paper (nonstandard-size paper: 203mm / 8inches or more in length), extend the cassette by pinching the tab.
Grasp the paper guide (A) and align it to the long edge of the envelope stack (2). Align the front edge of the paper stack in the same way (3).
Close the lid and push the cassette all the way into the printer.
Press the <Open> button and pull out the extension completely.
Press the <Feed Switch> button to turn on the Cassette light.
*MP500 shown.
Note: If the Auto Sheet Feeder lamp lights, press the Feed Switch button to light the Cassette lamp. If the Cassette lamp does not light even after pressing the Feed Switch button, Paper Source in the printer driver may be set to the setting other than the Feed Switch button.
Loading on envelopes Paper Type Precaution
Envelope (DL / #10 )
Set paper with the flap closed.
Press down firmly on the edges of the envelopes to make the folds crisp. Also, press firmly on the area that corresponds to the edges of the back flap.
Remove any curling by holding the edges diagonally and bending them gently.
If the edges of the envelope are inflated or are curling, place the envelope on a flat surface. With a pen, press down while moving it from the center toward the edges of the envelope.
Ensure that no curl or puff exceeds 1/8 in. (3 mm).
Load envelopes in the cassette with the print side facing down and the flap towards the left.
Close the lid and push the cassette all the way into the printer.
Press the <Open> button and pull out the extension completely.
Press the <Feed Switch> button to turn on the Cassette light.
Note: If the Auto Sheet Feeder lamp lights, press the Feed Switch button to light the Cassette lamp. If the Cassette lamp does not light even after pressing the Feed Switch button, Paper Source in the printer driver may be set to the setting other than the Feed Switch button.
I'm having the exact same problem. It wont accept the cassette...only half way then errors. It will close fully without a cassette as well. hmmmmm

Load cassette, turn it on, then message says re-load cassette. Door to cassette compartment only works half way. After fiddling with power, can get the cassette door to open and close all the way, but not with cassette. Tried several brands of cassettes, no joy.
Defective mechanism, a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. You need professional service to fix it.
When pouring a chilled beverage into a glass, water droplets may form on the surface of the glass. This happens because the air around the glass is rapidly cooled down, and moisture in the air adheres to the surface of the glass.
This phenomenon is called condensation.
This kind of condensation may also occur with camcorders. If you continue to use the camcorder with condensation on it, it could damage the camcorder.
Condensation may form on the camcorder in the following cases:
(1) When being moved from a cold place to a warm place
(2) When being used in a rapidly-heated cold room
(3) When being used in a humid room
(4) When being moved from an air-conditioned room to a warm, humid place
When condensation occurs:
The camcorder stops operating automatically after its power lamp flashes. The warning message "CONDENSATION HAS BEEN DETECTED" appears and the condensation-warning icon below starts flashing.
Condensation-warning icon
If a cassette is loaded, the warning message "CONDENSATION HAS BEEN DETECTED" and "REMOVE THE CASSETTE" appear and the cassette-warning icon starts flashing.
Cassette-warning icon
If a cassette is loaded in the camcorder, remove the cassette immediately and leave the cassette compartment open. If condensation is detected, the POWER switch and cassette-removing switch will be activated. Leaving the cassette in the camcorder may damage the tape. A cassette should not be loaded into the camcorder when condensation is detected.
How to avoid condensation
Unload the cassette and place the camcorder in an airtight plastic bag when moving to locations where temperatures vary. Allow time for the camcorder to adjust to temperature changes slowly before removing it from the bag.
Resuming use
Allow at least one hour before resuming use; more time may be required for heavier condensation. When condensation has been eliminated, turn the camcorder on. After the condensation-warning icon stops flashing, wait one hour before resuming use.
