Masterlink ML 9600 playback of a song previously successfully recorded on the HD, sounding like a drill going off.

The Masterlink ML 9600 is a professional digital audio recording and mastering system, so there are a few potential causes for this issue:
  1. Hard drive failure: If the hard drive on the ML 9600 is failing, it can cause issues with playback, including distorted or "drill-like" sounds.
  2. File corruption: If the file that you recorded and saved on the ML 9600's hard drive becomes corrupted, it can cause issues with playback.
  3. Firmware issue: If the firmware of the ML 9600 is not up to date, it could cause problems with the playback, especially when it comes to filing compatibility.
  4. Interference or electronic noise: If there is any kind of electronic noise or interference in the area, it could also cause playback issues, including distorted or "drill-like" sounds.
  5. Problem with the analog or digital output stages of the ML 9600.
It would be best to check the hard drive, ensure that the firmware is up to date, and verify that the file is not corrupted, and then check with the manufacturer for further assistance. If the problem persists, it may be necessary to have the unit serviced by a professional technician.

Bricked. firmware needed

It's kinda hard to answer these when we don't know the product name or model number. If the device has an RS232 serial port, you can usually use it (9600-8-N-1) to get to the boot menu, and there is often an option to upload firmware via XMODEM.

Caveat: if the boot menu gives you the option of increasing the baud rate above 9600, use that before starting the transfer. 9600 baud means ~9K/sec, which translates to roughly 2 minutes per Megabyte.

Firmware Update Fails

I'm not sure this will help, but per Magellan (see below), the firmware update must be run twice as your firmware is earlier than version 3. I have a GPS 315 with v2.03 and can't find a cable to update mine. My GPS 315 does not appear to have a cable connection either, just a screw port on the back for a carrying strap. Was your homemade cable wireless? How did you make it?

You must follow instructions exactly to avoid corrupting your unit's flash memory.
  1. Select the .zip file and save it to your hard drive. Open the .zip file using WinZip.
  2. Connect your receiver to your PC using the PC or Power/Data Cable.
  3. Turn on the receiver and press the NAV key.
  4. Make sure the batteries are at least 50% full.
  5. Select the MAGUP executable file from your PC.
  6. Follow the instruction until you see the message Upload Complete.
  7. If your unit's software version is earlier than 3.00, you will be prompted to turn the unit on again and load the software a second time. Follow the instructions.

Epson 9600

Are you sure it is not 10000020?

If so, it is a CPU error:

􀂆 Cause of trouble:
Defective circuit board or faulty CPU soldering. Program trouble or generation
error.
􀂆 Remedy:
• Firmware Reinstallation
• Replace the MAIN Board

Firmware re-installation has to be done by either replacing the ROMM or through the parallel interface with a PC

This is all according to the svc manual. I'm not a tech.
