Firelite makes clicking sound and light on top pulses on and off
I dropped my USBFLB100 (100 GB Firelite) on the carpeted floor, and now when I plug it into my laptop's USB port, it starts to spin and seems normal, and my computer recognizes it, but when I go to My Computer and open the drive, the folders and files are very slow to start appearing, as if the drive can barely be read from.
I'm not able to open any of the folders, and when I try to copy a folder or file to my computer, the Firelite starts to periodically click after a second of trying to spin, and with each click, the light at the top goes out, as if it's having a power short every time it tries to start the transfer.
Any thoughts on where I should go from here? What could be wrong with it and what could I try? I have a lot of precious files on the drive, but I don't have the kind of money it takes to get it professionally looked at.
Re: Firelite makes clicking sound and light on top pulses...
Sorry but your device has had it, with a bit of knowledge it may be posible to reove your files but you need to connect the hard dive out f its device housing directly to a computer.

This a firewire drive and needs to plugged into a firewire port to spin up. If you do not have a firewire port on your computer (most PC's don't) it will not work. I don't believe a firewire to USB connector will pass enough power to the drive to spin it up.
you will need to reformat the drive. it sounds like it was just formatted for MAC only. to do this open computer management and select disk management under storage. select the firelite drive and click format. please note these are settings for windows 7.
Ok same situation happened to me i dropped my Firelite 80Gig, drive would spin no light and the computer would not recognize the drive. All I did was open the case an saw the the internal hardrive had come loose from its pin connection. So all i did was pushed it back in and BAM now it works, hope this helps other people. Thanks C.J.
Unfortunately, this probably means the read/write heads were jarred and can no longer function properly. That's usually fixable, but it's a very expensive fix because the parts are inside the hard drive and the data surfaces are very delicate... Most people are better off simply replacing the hard drive unless the data is absolutely vital.
