Toshiba satellite m35x-s114 ( black screen ) , i can hear the fan on start up. is there something i can try to solve the problem.

your screen may have come unplugged from the board, do you see bios or anything come up when you first start up? if so run the windows in safe mode and change your graphics settings, other than that if it just blinks on start up you may have burned out your graphics card, its probably board mounted so... unless you can get an external to work, your laptop is dead

I hear noise on my toshiba laptop

It could be a fan, try blowing compressed air with a canister (not to close) through the vent holes on side/bottom of laptop.

It could be the cd/dvd drive, try removing it if you can.

Toshiba satellite m35x-s114 boots to the toshiba screen then doesn't do anything else. Even with the f2 or f12 option nothing happens. I hear the fan (I think it is the fan) then no sound at all. I have to...

Try getting to the bios screen, if you can get to the bios screen then I would imagine the hard drive has failed. If it is hanging up at the toshiba splash screen and not allowing BIOS access, then I would lean toward a motherboard failure. Are you attempting a boot from the windows disc?, is that why you are trying F12? I have seen my share of these Toshiba M35's just give the Toshiba splash screen when there has been a motherboard issue. Changing out the main board will fix this particular problem. I had not found another solution for it.

How do I restore to factory setting Toshiba Satellite M35X S114

You need to have the restore disk that came with the machine or if you don't have it, then you will need to get a Windows XP cd and find the drivers for your hardware on Toshiba's Support website.
