Hi, I did some research and found nothing on the a/c unit. If I had the model and serial numbers from the condenser and compressor this would help me. This would be a run capacitor doing the start up, dropping out the start relay and keeping it running. If you have only one run capacitor and its a dual, will have 3- female spades coming from the top, with marks that say Fan, C for common, and Herm. for compressor. If it has only one capacitor with2- female terminals, several places to connect more than 2 wires, its a single cap. If it just runs the compressor, it could be a 370 volt x 20, 25, 30, 35, uf?? If its a dual it could be a 370 volt x 5 u f for the fan and the same , 20, through 35 u f or microfareds. The best way to find out is to take off the wires on it, and make sure you draw a diagram so you know they are right, and take it to a appliance parts house and let them check it to see what they are. Larger units can have a 440 volt x 20 to 35, 40, 45 and so on. Your unit is not that large, so it will only be 370 volts as far as voltage, but the u f value will need to be checked with a meter that will check the value of these and give you a number such as 4.99 u. f. and you will no its a 5 u f. It may be higher like 5.24 u.f.and that is OK. Make sure the capacitor has no oil leaking from it or its not swollen looking or distorted in anyway, it will be open or shorted out. Please let me know if I have been of help to you when you go to rate me, please be kind. I will be here if you need my help if you are having problems with the compressor not starting.
Sincerely,

PS If this capacitor is black plastic and mounted on the side of the compressor, it will be a start, run capacitor with 2 wires. It snaps in a metal type holder you will need to take it out and check the terminal area it was connected to and remove it. If only 2 wires, it won't make a difference what side the leads hook to.

Testimonial: "This is exactually the information I was looking for. The paper label on the black plastic cse was faded, and I wasn't sure of the u f range this comperssor needed. Thanks, G"

How can I tell if the compressor is coming on on my Coleman 13500 roof top A/C unit? It blows air but not cooling. Thanks

Hi,
When the compressor starts you will hear the unmistakable noise associated with it...there is a definite hum from the compressor...check the t-stat on the unit... they often go bad..

My Dometic Roof AC on my motorhome will not start. When I turn it on, all I hear is a click, but the system does not start? What should I look for?

Take the external cover off the unit, check for oil leaks. If yoy have any it is a fair bet that you have lost the gas from the system and maybe damaged the compressor. Also with a multi-meter check whether power is getting to the compressor. Just a note, one of the oldest traps in the book is to forget to turn the thermostat down to its lowest setting before any testing. You may find that the darn thing has come to set point temperature and the thermostat is doing its job and has turned the machine off. Also I am not all that familiar with van Ac units but if it was a domestic or commercial machine there would be a delay timer between the thermostat and the compressor. Check the capacitors.with a capacitance meter. A crook capacitor will stop the compressor every time.

If everything works on the roof top unit; all the power is on and the lights dim when the compressor kicks in, so do you think it needs to be rechaged?

Probably not. Does it trip right away or after it runs a while? Check all your wiring connections at the unit including under the compressor terminal cap. Make sure your fan spins free & is lubricated. The condenser on the roof top could be dirty. A capacitor on the compressor could be weak or failing. It is possible there is a refrigerant leak that caused the compressor to run hot and start to draw high current as a result though.

Compressor needs replacing

Good luck, I'm in the business and it's virtually impossible to find just the compressor for rooftop rv units. You might be able to get one through and RV dealer that sells parts as well. Also, contact dometic. Usually the only time a compressor is replaced is when the units are still in warranty. Let me add one more thing. Because of the price, it's more economical to replace the whole uint since most of these units are below $800 total price.

Compressor tries to start but want

hi,
you have to run a contractor grade extension cord(10-12 gauge) from your rv to run those or theyll do that, the lower the gauge the better, best bet is to plug the rv directly into the outlet, if you cant, get the shortest and thickest extension cord you can.
