I have a 53 inch Sony Projection TV that is about 4 years old. The only service ever done to it was an inside dust cleaning by a technician maybe 3 years ago. The color started being more green over time and the picture began to get fussy after turning it on but in the past would clear up as the TV warmed up. Yesterday, it didn't clear up. The picture screen went black and the light in front marked "hibernate" is blinking. I still have sound but no picture. Do you have a solution??

Please count the blinks if it is a repeating pattern and post the model number. This is a relatively common problem, but the solution is dependent upon the model number.
Thanks,
Dan

I have a sony 50 in rear projection. 9 years old

Sounds like the CRT tubes are going out which is fairly common on Sony. Inside the back of the TV there are 6 knobs - 2 for each color...one is for focus - dont touch - the other for brightness...turn down the brightness just a hair untill the lines go away.

My kp 53s65 picture seems to be darker now than when i bought it. is this normal in a dlp tv ? someone told me to change the buld but i was not sure if i should.

KP53S65 is a rear projection Sony several years old--It is not a DLP and does not have a bulb--it has three picture tubes---if the set has not been serviced in a long time here is what you can do to try to improve it:

1.) Unplug set
2.) Remove back cover
3.) You will see 3 black lens (one for each tube)
4.) With a paper towel (spray glass cleaner on it) clean the dust from the three lens---if they have not been cleaned in a long time and have dust on them the picture will be darker and less distinct.

5.) Replace back cover and plug set in to see if this has helped----I have seen some where there was so much dust on the lens that it looked 50% better after just cleaning the lens--depending on area you live in--should be cleaned once a year.

I do this here for free so if this has helped you please take a minute to give me a vote here.

I have a RCA 60 inch TV and its about 12 or 13 years old. It has never been serviced or cleaned on the inside. The problem I'm having is the picture is starting to fade (quite a lot)and I was wondering if...

you probably have a little of both. the shutting off is definately heat related but could be too much dust on heatsinks, etc causing it to shutdown. cleaning may eliminate problem but could be a sign of an underlying issue..
the dust can really cause the picture to dim. most of these tvs you can pull the "lightbox" or guts out of the cabinet to clean all 3 lenses, and clean the mirror if needed. don't mess with the screens except cleaning the front from outside. usually a 1/4" driver will be all you need, and a soft cloth for the lenses. use compressed air or a vacuum to clean out dust which will help with cooling, but the picture is only effected by dust on lenses, mirror, and screens.

Dull colors

Remove the back panel and the inside panel which slides out on a track so you can get to the 3 crt lenses. Clean the dust off of the lenses with a soft lint free cloth, such as a camera lens cloth. You should be able to find one at a camera store or Radio Shack. Clean with a safe glass cleaner NOT WINDEX. Be sure not to scratch the lenses.

All color guns out of alignment

Needs convergence amps replaced. Sometimes resistors burn and need to be replaced. This repair requires soldering/desoldering equip. and a trained eye, but usually can be done for 175.00-325.00 at a reputable service center. Good luck, Russmann.

WARNING! focus is close to the HIGH VOLTAGE!
Consider this.... if your TV is more than 5 years old, it maybe the crt is gone?
Those TV has self focus... nothing to adjust what so ever?
Try cleaning the inner lens... might help?

Sony KP 53S65 53" rear projection TV contrast issue

While the root of the problem is likely the picture tubes aging, I'm sure it would benefit from a cleaning and adjusting. After the dust is cleaned from the lenses, the screen controls could likely be lowered to get the blacks you desire. An experienced tech would be able to do this for you.
