My computer will not bring up the webcam so i can record videos. I go to control panel -> scanners and cameras -> then i double click on the Logitech quickcam Express and it says its a digital camera and takes the pictures off of it :/ why does it do that?

Make sure Epson Scan and the Epson Creativity Suite are installed correctly. See the Start Here sheet for instructions.

Make sure your Windows system is set up for scanner events as follows.

Windows Vista:
Click > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Scanners and Cameras, or click > Control Panel and double-click the Scanners and Cameras icon. Click your scanner's icon, then click Properties. (When you see the User Account Control window, click Continue). Click the Events tab in your scanner's Properties window and make sure Take no action is not selected. Also, make sure the desired button is selected in the Select an event list box, and Start this program is selected.

Windows XP:
Click Start > Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Scanners and Cameras, or click Start > Control Panel and double-click the Scanners and Cameras icon. Then right-click your scanner's icon and select Properties. Click the Events tab in your scanner's Properties window and make sure Take no action is not selected. Also, make sure the desired button is selected in the Select an event list box, and Start this program is selected.

Windows 2000:
Click Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click the Scanners and Cameras icon, then select your scanner and click Properties. Click the Events tab in your scanner's Properties window and make sure the Disable device events check box is not checked. Also make sure the desired button is selected in the Scanner events list box, and the desired application is selected in the Send to this application list.

In Mac OS X, make sure you did not install the scanner software in Classic mode.

Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

Hi

To switch on the built webcam there have two option.

1. Open the my computer and down you see the Scanner and Camera category hear you see the install webcam double click for on your cam.

2. Go to the control panel and find the scanner and camera option and double click that one and you find the your Install cam hear also. then same double click and On the cam.

if there is no icon in the tray for a webcam try this,
Go to --->Start--->All Programs and see if there is an application for the webcam you don't say what type of cam you have but the name should sound like a camera of some type e.g. crystalbrite, webviewer, etc. in the folder there should be an app to activate the webcam.

If that doesn't work try this, go to --->START--->Control Panel--->Scanners and Cameras and see if there is any thing there that can be a camera to activate

Worst case scenario is you'll have to do a manual search and install of the camera because its gotten uninstalled or corrupted somehow, if so you can click add device in the scanners and cameras section by going to--->START--->Control Panel--->Scanners and Camera--->Add Device

Make sure the webcam mic is set as default - this is especially important if you have a laptop with a mic or use a headset with mic

If you have an earlier OS, you may have to access your hardware from the Control Panel.

Plug in the webcam

TEST SPEAKERS

Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC

Click "Recording" tab.
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

CONFIGURE TO MESSENGER

Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

Click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Video and Voice
Set webcam mic and speakers to show Default equipment
Open Video and Voice Setup to test audio equipment
Click 'Place a free test call'
Check box 'Allow USB devices to access Messenger'
Click 'Apply' click 'OK'

Make sure your webcam mic is set as the default mic
Plug in the webcam

Click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Video and Voice

Open Control Panel -- > "Scanners and Cameras" Wizard, then Double Click to open the icon located there. This will automatically turn on your Webcam.

Open your My Computer and at the bottom part of the windows you will find a USB Video Device icon. Double click on it and it will activate your built-in camera.

Now use a video chatting program like skype or Yahoo Messenger with your webcam.

if you are using windows xp go to start menu click on settings go to control pannel look for "scanners and camera" double click on it you can now see the model of your webcam again double click on it and the cam will open

in ue by another app is usually a driver conflict or a virus. if you have a 3n1 printer or a scanner unplug it and reboot the pc see if you get the same message. if not update the scanner or printer drivers. if the messgae return even after the reboot try a clean boot next.

To Boot Clean in Windows Vista Accessing the System Configuration Utility
1. Click Start and select Control Panel
2. Click System and Mantience
3. Click Administrative Tools
4. Double Click System Configuration
Configure Selective Startup options
1. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
2. Uncheck Load Startup Items
3. Select the Services tab
4. Check Hide all Microsoft services
5. Click Disable all
6. Click on OK
7. Click Restart.
After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:
1. Click Start and select Control Panel
2. Click System and Mantience
3. Click Administrative Tools
4. Double click System Configuration
5. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
6. Click Ok
7. Click Yes, when asked to restart your computer
To Boot Clean in Windows XP
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI file
4. Uncheck Process WIN.INI file
5. Uncheck Load Startup Items
6. Click on the Services tab
7. At the bottom, check Hide All Microsoft Services
8. Uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled Disable All
6. Click OK
7. Click Restart

After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
3. Click OK
4. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer

if the camera starts to work after doing this your looking at a virus have your pc cleaned by a pro.

You should be able to use the built-in windows application. It is located in the Control Panel under Scanners and Cameras. Just double-click the icon for your camera.
