Zebra TLP 2844-Z Thermal Label Printer Logo
Posted on Jul 02, 2010

The printer is not feeding the label until the perferated line. it only feeds about an inch and then stops and then feeds another inch. on our other zebra once the feed button is pushed the printer feeds the label until the label ends. Thus our labels aren't printing properly the content is not in the right place.

My Zebra ZDesigner LP2844 feeds a blank label after printing a label. How do I make it stop doing that?

Define your label size correctly. Measure your LABEL exactly, do not include the backing paper or the gap. Calibrate the printer. HOW?
Power off printer. Press and hold the green feed button down and power printer on. Count one, two and release green button. The printer will calibrate and move labels and then print some stuff on the label. Wait until it has comletely stopped. wait another few seconds and the press the feed key once. The printer will print "out of dump". You should now be ready to print again.

Reset printer sensor threshold setting.

Turn on printer whilst holding down line key untill printer beeps.

Use feed key to step to Gap in display.
Load label plus backing under sensor and not volts reading.
remove labels and place backing only under sensor and note volts reading.
use following formula
High reading + Low reading / 0.5 = Value to use
e.g 2.8 + 1.4 / 0.5 = 2.1.

use result to change value of input using line key once set press feed key to set.

To change label start position use the pitch menu.

Top of Form Fault error

It means that the printer did not get a good calibration on the label. First make sure the label sensor is in the proper position. Look at the green bar that the label passes underneath and make sure that the white line (the sensor) is positioned over the label. Then calibrate by pressing and holding the FEED key for about 5 seconds until the labels start to feed. After a few labels feed out, the printer should now have a good read on the size of the label and be ready to go.

Hope that Helps !

Everytime I print a label it stops short of the

This is an easy printer to fix since there is only one control button. Turn the printer off. Hold the green feed key down while turning the printer on; once the red light begins flashing, let go of the feed button. This will do three things: the printer will calibrate with the installed media, it will print a configuration label and the printer will go into dump mode. Press the feed key again. One more label will come out with with the words "Out of Dump" printed at the top. If the printer still fails to print, remove the ribbon and try the same procedure with direct thermal labels (UPS or FedEx). From there, consult the manual for more troubleshooting tips.

hold down the feed button until both light flash off and let go. This will reset the printer. This should stop it from feeding multiple labels.

TLP2848Z blinking red, will not print

1: Is it a TLP2844 or a TLP2844Z.

Operationally they are completely different printers. TLP2844 uses ELP (Eltron Programming Language. but TLP2844Z uses ZPL (Zebra Programming Language). You need to calibrate the printer to the labels.

Calibration:
If its a TLP2844. Load media. Connect power.
Hold down feed key, power on, count one, two, release feed key. The printer will go through a calibtation routine and print config label. IMPORTANT - When it prints this label you must press the feed key and see the message OUT OF DUMP. Your printer will now be calibrated. Check this by hitting the feed key a few times and printer will feed one label each time feed is hit.

Calibration:
If its a TLP2844z.

Load media. Turn printer on and wait for green light (Approx 1 minute)
Press feed key and keep it pressed until green light blinks once, then twice, now release feed key.

Extra feed

The label sensors might not be getting a strong signal as the labels pass between them.
Make sure the labels are loaded all the way to the left (as viewed fron the front) and make sure the label guide (near the back of the printer) is set to keep the labels from wandering away from the sensor.

There is a pair of infrared emiter and detector located above and below the label path. As label pass between, these measure the leading and trailing edges of each label.

If you haven't already done so, calibrate the printer, by using the "Online", "Calibrate", "Online" buttons. Hit the "Feed" button a few times to see if the labels feed consistantly. It might take to "Feeds" to get each out, if they stop at both the start of the printhead and again at the tear bar. Adjusting the labels and calibrating fixes most problems. If the "Feed" button still doesn't feed just one label and the printer still skips labels, you'll need to adjust the label gap sensors. This can be a bit tricky if your labels are very narrow.

There should be a small pcb on a shaft under the label path. Note its current location, then slide it left or right to get a better signal, and try the feed button again. On my Zebras, the sensor is not in the middle of the PCB. Look for a small metal "can" on the PCB and center that.

The upper sensor is more difficult to adjust, but if you manage to spot a very small PCB above the labels, it will be easier to line these up.
