I have an old Compaq Presario 700Z laptop, that the hinges no longer provide resistance to the movement of the screen. I already know most of the difficult/costly repairs. I'm looking for something reasonably quick and simple. Any ideas? Thx-

REMOVE OLD HINGES THEN REPLACE NEW ONE SIMPLE.HOPE YOUR GOOD AT SOLDERING FOR THE SILVER PLASTIC!!!!!!

It appears the hinge is broken and the plastic is preventing the screen from separating from the laptop base.

Basically the LCD screen is attached to the bottom of the laptop by the hinges. This may require the keyboard to be removed to get access to the LCD connector to the motherboard. The hinges may also be secured by screws at the back of the laptop.

Try to put your laptop always on flat surface. Uneven base gives angle to the already tiny clearance space for the disc. Could be that the DVD disc run coz its finer, it will spin much slower than CD disc.

I had the same problem, they are very easy to fix, I did a search earliar and found some on the link below.

You do not need to dismantle to base, you have some star screws under the battary and one either side that loosens the small panel near the screen (where the power button is). The screen cover has screws under the plastic covers then just unclips, be gentle. after that it is self evident

you will find small end rubber ( round flat) that is on the top 4 pcs and the bottom 2 pcs, remove this and keep this for a while, then remove the screws that goes along w it.

from there you can find out how to remove the LCD

Compaq Presario 700z notebook PC supports 128MB, 192MB, 256MB, 384MB PC 133 SyncDRAM (SDRAM). The Max Capacity is 384MB.

On this basis, I agree to upgrade the BIOS to support a 133Mhz (PC 133) memory module (DIMM).

At current DIMM capacity and prices, ensure the total memory capacity does no exceed 384MB. On the same note, a 512MB DIMM or two 256MB DIMMs are not supported. The best combination to achieve 384MB will be one 128MB and one 256MB DIMMs.
