Yes, it's quite possible that your Sony device (memory card or hard disk) became corrupted due to certain reason. Well, to increase chances of recovery, the first thing should do - stop taking more videos with the same Sony device. Then rely on a thrid-party data recovery tool to help.

This site Digital Camera Recovery outlines a few reliable & tested programs for both PC & Mac users.

After that, try quick-format the disk and re-try the program to see if more data can be retrieved. Note: format won't erase the data for good. Good luck & Merry Christmas!

You mean when you access the camcorder(HD or memory card), it tells you to format it. And sometimes it won't let you format? This kind of problem happens here and there with extenal storage device such as memory stick or hard drive. Primary reason is the storage media is corrupted. The solution is DO NOT format it right away.

First of all, use some data recovery software to see if you can recover the videos.
If you are running Windows, try this software(recover photos, VIDEOS and music)
For Apple Mac OS X, try this Mac data recovery software.

Install the program on your computer (choose the right version based on the operation system you are running), then connect your camcorder (memory card or HDD) to the computer and start to recover your lost videos.

If software won't help, then the only option is to take your camcorder for SONY after-sale services or simply a computer shop.

I finalized a dvd-rw disc using sony 205 video camera. Dic plays in camera but is not recognized by either of my two computers

It is possible that the software on your computer(s) does not have the correct codex to read the video files. Can you access the disc in Explorer (or equivalent) ? If so, try converting the video files to a different format (i.e. if they are .MOV files, convert them to .MP4 or .MPG). Freemake Video Converter should be able to handle this - as the name suggests, it is free.

Recorded video on mini DVD in Sony handy cam, put in laptop and it asked to format disc , hit yes and now cannot get video. What do I do to get video or is everything erased. Pleases help. Thank you

Use a 3rd party software like Stellar or Wondershare to recover. These are not free, but are slight better then the free Recuva. Try it, but make sure to do a deep scan.

Can not get video files from a mini dis dcr dvd 108 handycam when I try to import to my pc it says does not support this dis i was using usb cable to pc with sony's software thanks jim

First make sure to finalize recorded disc in camcorder, finalization option is available in camcorder menu and will be enable by powering camcorder with AC charger/ adapter.
Now you can transfer movie files in computer or put recorded disc in computer dvd rom and copy files.

If the disk has been finalised, it cannot subsequently be formatted. If it has been formatted, then it had not been finalised.
