i have tried replcing the lamp, but still...the picture is dark aqnd getting darker as time goesw on. on my model,m i can replace my own bulb, takews 15 minuters to replace aqnd back on air. ii dis this to help lo0wqer se3rvice3 cost, now not sure if it was a good idea. i am selling mine andusing my computers 32 olivea for now untill sold, i have almost everything sony, and this is the first time i could not fix. to me, it has to be the lamp doing this, some kind of energy saving thing maybe, but when i put a simple wave guide device, it lowers over time, telling me its loosing light rays. not hard to prove, hard to fix though, stronger lamp, but could get hotter than it is. love to hear from others.

I have a 2 year old 65” back projection TV that has a dark picture and getting darker as time go’s on. I need to have the contrast and brightness set at 100% to watch and if I use the DVD you can’t see any dark scenes in a movie. Do you know of a fix?

I have been fighting a dark screen almos impossible to see dark scenes

this worked for me
the mirror has dust on it easy fix
remove front of screen by removing screws around the top and sides of the back don't forget to pop off the bottom cover in the front it just pulls off
then remove center cover screws
i could not disconnect the front electrical plug but it has enough slack to lift and then tip the front screen down to the floor
it will be obvious on the mirrors there is a big one it wasn't to dirty
lean in and look down there is a small mirror and lens they were filthy
there is a piece of foam trying to keep the dust out it was sucked backed so dust could get in
clean with windex and paper towels cloth didn't work
good luck
