When u choose to preview the document or any A4 standard paper before scanning u will have to select the all area of A4 paper , do not let lower and upper area unselected , select all the paper size

See Operation Panel. .... Lights or flashes orange when an error occurs, such as paper-out or ink-out. .... You can switch the size of paper loaded in the Rear Tray between A4 and 8.5" .... Remove the original on the Platen Glass after scanning is completed...... For details on the printer driver settings, see Printing Documents.
You can scan the largest size of paper that will fit on the glass area of the scanner (the platten).
If your legal paper fits in this area or, at least the text printed on it fits well within the borders of platten, then you can scan it.
Your scan will show you a preview of the image scanned so you can see if all the text has been scanned from the original document before you save the scanned image on the computer or copy print it.
yes you can scan a tiny image and print it out larger, but you will lose quality if you are going from very small to very big.

after you are complete with that you can print it out and you will have an A4 paper size (Equivalent size in inches is 11.69" long and 8.27" wide.)
Two possible solutions to your problem.
If you are talking about grabbing more sheets than one from the tray,
you need to make sure the tray guides are up flush against the paper.
If on the other hand you are talking about scanned/copied jobs, check
the setting for your scanner, it may be set to letter size which is longer than
A4, so the machine thinks it needs another sheet to complete the job causing
a blank page to be sent.

I talked to tech support at Canon, and he explained that the document I was trying to print was originally scanned with an A4 paper size, and my printed is set to Letter paper size, thus producing the error code. A simple solution is to "uncheck" the box that says "choose paper source by PDF page size". It worked!!
check the setting, paper size may be set to a4 but the image may be set to a different size... like a bigger size maybe tats why only a part of the image is printed on the paper
