You will have to leave the unit out in the open so it can 'see' the satellites. It might need from 20-30 minutes to acclimatize itself to the new location. It is set at Kansas because that's where the manufacturer is, so that is the last recorded satellite signal.

Try connecting in your car and leave it on and let it charge while you are driving it may eventually find the satellite, it probably remembers the last satellite it found which was in Kansas. You may not be getting a signal where your are right now so run some errands and leave it connected in your car. You can also go to the garmin web site and try updating the unit. You will need a usb cable and will need to install garmin updater. Make sure the unit is fully charged. If this does not work you can call garmin and they are usually very helpful. Let me know what solved the problem. thanks for using fixya
The satellite chip ( SIIRF) is possible burned out It starts always at the last place it was programmed or the default place of issue. It may be quite expensive to fix as it requires a new motherboard. Not usually covered by warranty as they can be damaged by overcharging aqnd connecting to DC when starting engine.
Try this and see if it fixes it for you...first disable bluetooth on your unit.
1. Power off the unit.
2. HOLD down the power button and you will see "Pre Boot Mode" appear on the lower part of the display. KEEP HOLDING the power button down and the display will flicker, do this until the pre boot mode message disappears. This seems to take a long time (60 seconds at least).
3. Once the pre boot mode message disappears release the power button and your device will perform some activites to recover from problem.
Take the unit outside and turn it on. Then select View Maps, at the top of the screen it will say either "Locating satellites" or "Acquiring Satellites". Once the garmin has locked onto the overhead satellites, then it will say "Ready to Navigate".
Locating Satellites take longer than Acquiring Satellites.
You need to go outside and turn on the Garmin until it has acquired a satellite lock (15-20 minutes). Kansas is the default location (Garmin Headquarters). Once you have acquire satellites, the Garmin will remember the last position as the starting position when the power is turned off. You know you have acquire a satellite lock once "Ready to Navigate" appears on the top of the screen.
Click 'Where to', select 'My Locations' Select 'favorites' Click 'Home' then select 'EDIT' in the lower right hand corner. Than selet 'DELETE' that should clear the home addy out for you.
