I don't think ASUSTek support the Vista drivers for K8V-MX at their website.

It might be best to disable the onboard sound through BIOS selection and use an external PCI sound card with Vista support.

download updated drivers from the Intel website, (choose the relevent chipset for the board, there should be vista compatible drivers available.)

Audio drive with vista
Since this model was not made to run VIsta but Xp the Xp drivers,of course, will not work with Vista. Download the manual . Find out which Audio chipset it has. Go to the audio chipset manufactors websiteand download the VISTA driver for that chips set, if one was ever written.

you shouldn't have installed vista service pack 1
its a known issue with vista service pack 1
if u had vista before and u updated it to sp1...i would suggest you to either do a system restore and uninstall sp1
or install XP back
