I erased all the songs off of it.but i cant put mp3 on it cause it still says that its no free space.how do i reset the memory?

Hello,
if your PC can show the removable disk drive you should format it. In this case all the folders and media files will be erased on your player. Then copy the media files to the player.
I hope this action will be enough and the files can get to the memory of it

My daughter's RCA 'Pearl' MP3 player will power on and the screen will say "Usable memory exceeded, Please remove a few files". It will then shut itself down. Because it won't stay on, my computer won't...

Hello,

Main support for the TH1102 is on next sites:
http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/product.aspx?product=32
and
http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads/?sku=TH1102

To reset the player remove the battery and replace it.
If the player won't function correctly after that, go to the trouble shooting site:
http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7522/session/L3NpZC8zYU5rR1U2aw%3D%3D
Get a download of the firmware upgrade
direct link PEARL_FWUtility_v2.0.exe , or look on next page:
http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9284
Connect your player and install the updater onto your computer.
Follow the steps as told within the updater.

Message pops up after I turn it on, then it cuts off

Have you tired formatting it? Sometimes Mp3 player contacts virus while putting them in a system that has virus. So maybe you should try to scan it because the file inside might have have virus and maybe that's why its misbehaing. Virus also sometimes occupies space on a drive.

I wish you the best.

It says exceeded usable memory and shuts down and wont come back on

I haven't seen the exceeded usable memory message on mine, but I am familiar with Pearls not coming back on.

First, perform a reset buy removing the battery for at least 10s. Sometimes mine just shows the plain pearl logo (not the moving one) and then shuts off. Removing the battery for a while and then putting it back in always fixes it so that it shows the plain pearl logo for few seconds then displays the animated logo and starts normally.

If this fix doesn't work for you, then the firmware inside the Pearl is most likely corrupted, and can be easily fixed by running this software from the RCA website and following these steps:

  1. start the program,
  2. remove the battery from the TH1102 & wait at least 10 secs,
  3. hold the play button while plugging into usb,
  4. release the play button the the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
  5. click the start button to replace the firmware.
Hope that helps.

Whyis it saying usable memory exceed please remove from file.

This is because you have a limit on the amount of limit you can use on a media player, and you need some memory (about 50mb of it), to make it operate. Now, for example lets say you have a 2gb media player. You could fill it up 1.66gb of the way, but the rest would be needed to make it operate. These days, they don't let you use the memory that is needed to make it operate. For example, it could be an 8gb media player like an iPod, but it would only let you use 7.54gb of it because the rest is needed to operate it. I hope this helped =]
