How long will my fax machine hold my send/receive data for? will it save for 4-5 years?

Sorry. Your reception and transmission report data changes as it is used.

The Fax Log shows the specific information concerning transmission or reception activities, the time and date of most recent 40 transmissions or receptions.

I cannot receive fax on my dell940 printer. help

The A940 is not a standalone fax machine, and needs to work with your computer to send and receive faxes. Your computer needs a dialup modem installed and a connection to a phone line, and you need to have fax software installed. The printer actually only works as a scanner to input a document to be faxed, and as a printer to display a received fax. The installation CD supplied with the printer has fax software on it you can install, and other software is available online. This document from Dell (the fax section of the user's guide) may be helpful.

When recevie fax their is nothing document but error code coming 242

Error Code: 242 Definition

The remote fax machine is attempting to receive instead of send. Both machines have attempted to start a reception at the same time. On many fax machines, it is possible to accidentally initiate a fax reception in the following cases:

  • There is no paper in the machine.
  • The paper is not correctly loaded and the document sensor cannot sense it.

Solution

Contact the sender to make sure that a document is ready and correctly loaded in the sending fax machine. Also make sure that the remote machine is attempting to initiate a transmission and not a reception.

Cant receive faxes using sharp ux-108 model

If it sends ok, then it has probably been switched to "manual reception" or "telephone mode" from "automatic reception" -check manual on how to set.

I CAN`T SEND A FAX

Fax machines are sorta like printers, sorta like scanners, and sorta like dial up modems all wrapped into one expensive box.
1. First thing to make sure of is that you are hooked to a phone line. most fax machines have a phone handset that you can make calls from. Call someone and make sure that works. If So, you are able to connect to phone networks, and should have no trouble sending or receiving data. If you have a dead line or no sound, check the line and check the power. (its always the easy stuff that is overlooked, just check it and make sure).
2. If this fax machine has computer interface, (usb port or parallel cable port), see if you can scan with it. Drop a document into the scan area and see if the computer can scan an image from the scanner. If the scanner works, you can scan images into the fax machine to be sent to the fax number. (If your fax machine does not have a scan to computer feature, skip this.)
3. if your fax machine has a print from pc feature, try to print a document to it from your computer. If you can print, then the printer works, and you can receive faxes. (if your fax machine does not have a pc printing feature, skip this)
4. Here is how a typical fax machine works. You place the document or image into the scanner feed area. You press a big button that usually says "fax" and then, a screen pops up saying to dial the number. You dial the number and press SEND. once you press Send, the machine will scan the document, dial the number and sing a little dial up modem song awaiting a response from the receiving machine. the receiving machine acknowledges the fax, and the singing is no longer audible (but it continues because the modem song is actually data transmission/reception). after about 20-60 seconds, the fax completes and the call ends. As for the particular model you have, the functions should be about the same, though the buttons and arrangements may be different. FYI, you can send a fax straight from the PC too, if you have a dial-up fax/modem card.

I can send faxes but cannot receive them

check what the reception mode is set to. It's probably been switched to "manual receive"

Can't remember how to connect to fax

I don't see that the Lexmark X3430 functions as a fax machine. It is a combination Printer, Scanner and Copier. If you would like to send faxes, you would need to scan the document using this device and then fax it by way of a separate fax modem installed on your computer, which would need to be plugged into your phone line.

If this is not the right model number, let me know and I'll take a look.

X3430 has the software for sending fax but I don,t know if its possible when my pc is on a cable modem

I had the same problem, except that I have Verizon FIOS. I simply installed a 56K modem (I had a few in my junk box), hooked it up to a phone line, and everything works fine.

Brother Intellifax 2820

It could be a compatibility issues between the two faxes. If the other fax is particularly old its communication speed could be too slow for your fax.

Also don't rule out the line on there end. Many times in my job I've had Telephone company's check the line remotely and say its ok but its not until they come out to site that they find an actual fault.

Do a manual reception. Put your fax reception mode from automatic to manual. When the fax rings in pick up the line with the hook or speaker phone button and then press the start button. This rules out a fair part of the line correction. If you can receive of course.
