Question about Sony DVP-NS575P DVD Player

2 Answers

The player gives a "cannot play" message for all types of media

After playing 1 DVD and loading a new one, all I get is a "CANNOT PLAY" message.  Reset by unpluging, changed DVD, tried new DVD, tried old (previously played) DVD); I only get a "CANNOT PLAY" message.

    I fixed it!

Took cover off (2 side screws, 2 screws on back at the edges, and 1 (different size) screw at the back-top-edge-middle.

Tried to fix by unplugging unit, loading many different DVDs/CDs, only got "CANNOT PLAY" message.  At times this unit locks-up and I need to unplug it to reset it so that it will run/work.

With the cover off I could see that the DVD did not spin (easy to see with the cover off), but could hear the head moving/searching.

Unloaded DVD, reloaded DVD, once the DVD was in spin position, I SPUN THE DVD-CLAMP ASSEMBLY MANUALLY WITH MY FINGER - motor engaged and dvd started playing.

It's been running fine for 5 DVD tests and 3 compete movies now.

Just in case the unit locks up again, I only put the one back-center screw back on to hold the lid on.

Love the player bought it in March 2004 (manufacture date January 16, 2004 (stamped on inside back cover).

I'll repost if it stops again.

I have same problem. Unplugged the unit but it did not help.

had the same problem and solved it the same way - only 1 year old too.

Where is the best place to get a spin motor for these players?

  • slverbulet7 Mar 10, 2009

Same problem. I bought it only a year ago, so I did not suspect something was wrong with the player. My first thought was dust on the reader, but I wasn't able to get to it to clean it. I can't get anything inside to move; it's all connected to too much to risk.

my player can accept cd's but its displays 'cannot play' messsage while using dvd...but my dvd is spinning

Brilliant, Greg, this is exactly the fix I needed. My unit is relatively new and relatively little used but had the same symptoms and this solution saves me either a repair bill or a new unit (both would probably cost the same).

But it makes you think that those extended warranties might not be such a bad idea, after all, considering the poor design/build quality of so much stuff these days.

Brilliant fix, Greg; I had the same problem and this has fixed it, for now, saving me the cost of a repair or new player.

Brilliant, Greg; I had the same symptoms with my relatively new and relatively little used unit, and your method works for me, at least for now. Saves me a repair bill or the cost of buying a new player.

The motors are trash. Just by a Samsung; the repairs of player does not justify fix.

Unit probably has a defective disk motor that is in border line failure. When problem again arises, have the motor replaced

When you try to play a DVD game on Xbox 360 it tries to play as a movie?

c on your Xbox 360 console, you may receive an error message. This article presents step-by-step guidance to help you determine whether your disc is playable.
SYMPTOMS When you try to play a disc, you may receive the following error message: Can’t read this DVD.
CAUSE The DVD or game disc may be dirty or damaged. Because the console cannot read the disc well, it may even mistake a game disc for a DVD and report this error. If this problem occurs with multiple discs, even clean and undamaged discs, there may be a problem with your Xbox 360 console.
Note If you receive a different error message, such as one of the following messages, the problem is a different problem:
Error message 1 Can't play DVD. Wrong region code. Error message 2 Can’t play DVD. Family settings restrict playback of this DVD. If you receive one of these error messages, see the corresponding Knowledge Base article: 907620 While attempting to play a standard DVD movie using your Xbox 360 console, you receive the error message: "Can't play DVD. Wrong region code" 908645 While attempting to play a DVD movie using your Xbox 360 console, you receive the error message: "Can’t play DVD. Family settings restrict playback of this DVD"
THINGS TO TRY Here are some things that you can do to try to fix the problem or to determine what caused it.
Determine whether the disc is dirty or damaged Discs that are smudged, scratched, or otherwise damaged cannot be read by the Xbox 360 console. You will want to examine the disc to see whether it has smudges, scratches, or other damage. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Examine the disc for dirt or damage: a. Pick up the disc by its edges. Do not touch the top or bottom surface. b. Examine the shiny side of the disc to make sure that the disc is clean and has no damage.
NoteScratches that follow the curve of the disc are very damaging and prevent a disc from being read. If your disc has even one of these kinds of scratches, the disc is damaged, and you will no longer be able to play it. If this is the case, see step 4. 2. If the disc is dirty, clean the disc by hand: • Use a soft, clean, dry, chemical-free cloth to clean the disc. • Lightly wipe from the center of the disc outward. 3. After you clean the disc, try to load it in the Xbox 360 console. If the disc still will not load or you receive the same error message, the disc is damaged, and you will no longer be able to play it. If this is the case, see step 4. 4. If the disc is damaged, do one of the following: • Because DVD discs are not game discs and the disc was damaged because of misuse of some type, such as not storing the disc in its case, the only thing that you can do is buy a new one. • If you feel that the disc was damaged by the Xbox 360 console in some way, please contact Xbox Customer Support. To do this, please visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://www.xbox.com/support/contact

All my DVDs say "invalid" when I try and play. This just started all of a sudden. Was working just fine before.

Always first unplug for a minute and make sure the discs are VERY CLEAN. Sometimes my player/recorders give an error message 2-3 times but eventually are able to load the disc.

I have recorded an outgoing message. However, at the end of the new outgoing message an old obsolete outgoing message starts to play. How do I get rid of the old outgoing message?

Hi,
You will need to remove the old message. There SHOULD be prompts. IF NOT try going to a very quiet room and hit record but do not say or make noise and this will record silence over the old and new message. Then attempt to retry.
ALSO - look for a 'reset' button and remove all batteries if you have power outage back up batteries.
Unplug the phone - and try again.
Here are the instructions from the manual:
To Change Your Personal Greeting:
1. Press the Check Voicemail key or press the Feature button, then 981
2. Enter your password
3. Press the ADMIN softkey
4. Press the GREET softkey
5. Press the REC softkey
6. Press the PRIME softkey
7. Press the YES softkey
8. At the tone, record your new greeting, press the OK softkey to end your recording and then the OK softkey again to accept the new recording

Best of it

DVD stopped working and cannot do setup.

You probably need to reset your DVD/VCR/Combo. Go to www.samsung.com. Go to <Support>. In the search box, type in the model of your DVD/VCR/Combo. Or type in, >how to reset DVD/VCR/Combo<. Each model has different reset method and there are hundreds of models!

853. How To Reset Your Samsung DVD Player STEP 1
STEP 1. DVD Reset List
Samsung DVD players have a built-in reset procedure that resets the DVD player to the factory defaults. You can use the reset procedure to reset settings that don’t work with your TV or to resolve issues such as unit lock up. To run the reset procedure, you press one or more buttons on the front of the DVD player and hold them for at least fifteen seconds. The buttons your press depend on the model you have.
Important: For the reset procedure to work, you must press the buttons on the front of the player, not on the remote control for the player.
Below is a list of all Samsung DVD players and the buttons to press to run the reset procedure.
DVD511 - Stop / Play
DVD611 - Stop / Play
DVD709 - Stop / Play....

Many, many other models follow but cannot be listed here because of this site's text limitations.

Good luck!

Sp k-970 dvd player will not play. played 1 dvd whenfirst bought now will not play any

1) Reset DVD player by powering unit off and unplugging from wall outlet for 30 seconds, then try again
2) Run a DVD cleaner

Are you getting a "No Disc" Message no matter what disc you use? Are you getting the message no matter what type of disc you use - commercial DVD vs burned DVD? If you are only having problems with burned DVD's, then make sure the discs are finalized.

Is the TV on the right channel?

If all else fails, call the manufacturer.

Try playing Different DVDs, Second Make sure which Region Disk your playing is it Region 1 or Region 2, If your DVD player is Manufactured in USA it plays only Region 1, If its manufactured in UK it plays only Region 2, If still you face same problem Use Lens Cleaner, If still you face same problem do Reset.
To Reset Dvd player, Remove DVD from Dvd Player, Unplug Power chord from Walloulet for 15minutes so player goes to Defult Factor Settings, Then plug back again Power chord. Turn on Dvd player insert DVD, It should Play or else Claim Warranty.
