This might help . . . Mine finished printing one doc & then made a terrible noise & sent a message to my screen that "print cartridge cradle is stuck." When i opened door, i could see it was stuck off to the left side so left cartridge was obscured. I could not get it to budge, although i kept turning it off, gently pushing & turning it back on. Finally, i got my hand inside & determined that the little door to the left-side cartridge had popped open & was causing it to remain stuck. After some struggles (turn off printer first!) i was able to maneuver it around & close it tight. Now, all is well . . .
I had this same problem. a piece a paper was torn off from a stuck piece of paper I removed and this was lodged to the right of the printer cartridge cradle. moved the cradle to the left--removed the small piece of paper and it works great.
I just had the same problem...found this link:

It would print the test page....and then wouldn't move again to print anything else. So redid several times....then I lifted the lid while printing a test page so the cartridge was in the center and I could get ahold of it to slide it....left the printer ON, but unplugged the power cable...and then I was able to move the cartridge back and forth. I then took QTips with Windex on them and cleaned the silver bar the cartridge moves on. Got a lot of ink off of it.
A couple more test prints...and sliding the cartridge......and it is finally running again.
HP Photosmart 8250, "Print cartridge cradle is stuck. Clear jam then press OK". I have moved the print cartridge to the left and when I press the "OK" button, the same message appears, but only after a quick flash where it shows the levels of the ink.I don't see any paper, I have opened the cartridge cavity and looked, I have opened the back of the printer and turned the rollers and the same error occurs.

I have had this problem with my 7550 for a while now and I finally found this on the HP website and it seems to have fixed my problem, I also replaced all of the cartridges:
Issue
While printing from an HP Photosmart printer, the printer screen displays
Print cartridge cradle is stuck / clear jam and then press OK
.
The printer may also make grinding sounds. This can occur after a paper jam when another printer part blocks the cradle.
Solution
Follow these instructions to adjust the clutch on the printer.
NOTE:
The
clutch is a flat, white, plastic component that rests just above the
white roller gear wheel. In the HP Photosmart P1000 and P1100 printers,
the clutch is black metal.

"The print cartridge cradle cannot move."
I fixed this problem by disconnecting the power cord from the power-strip and connecting it directly into the wall. My printer was not getting enough voltage from the power-strip. I hope this helps.
SOURCE: printer keep saying print cartridge cradel is stuck and clear jam, but there is no jam.
check the sensor , either there is somthing stucking on the sensor you cannot see it, either the sensor it self becomes bad.

The carriage is stuck with the cartridges right of the lid in the parked location. I cannot get the carriage free. I have tried all the perscribed remedies that HP offers, including a useless chat session. Does anyone know how to get the cover off the printer?
