If you examine the hard disk you should see on the labels the jumper positions for setting it to slave. You will then need to attach the slave disk to the power and data cables inside your friend's computer.

Hardrive connected green light on powercord only blinking and not powering external hardive

Replace the power cable and data cable. If still no help, the drive is dead and needs to be replaced.

Vista will not boot

Shutdown and then take your hard drive out, connect it to another PC with a USB adapter/cable, and use that other PC's anti-virus (e.g., McAffee) and anti-malware (e.g., malwarebyte) to scan and clean your hardrive. Make sure your hard drive does not overheat during the scan/cleaning process. After cleaning, re-insert hard drive in your laptop and boot.

Probably the connecting cable of hardrive is loose or the hard drive has crashed, or the power to the harddrive is not connected.please check.
See if that helps.

Samsung s2 portable, folders are showed as shortcuts !

OK you harddrive is infected with Malware. This Malware creats shortcuts of each folder and Hide the all those your main folder.
You can scan your Hardrive with fully updated Anti Virus apllication .

To see all your original folder you can enable your Shown hidden File option from your Folder option--View--uncheck show hidden files and folder--and uncheck hide protected operating system files.

Here is the step to unhide your all files and folder in one go.
Step 1:

Click on the below link and download the file "AutorunExterminator"

http://en.kioskea.net/download/download-11613-autorun-exterminator

Extract it --> Double-click on "AutorunExterminator" --> Plug your Hard drive now.

This will remove the autorun.inf files from your flash drive and also from drives.

Step 2:

Click on "Start" -->Run --> type cmd and click on OK.

Here I assume your flash drive letter as G:

Enter this command.

attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.*

You can copy the above command --> Right-click in the Command Prompt and

paste it.

Note : Don't forget to replace the letter g with your flash drive letter.

Now press "Enter".

this should solve your problem.

Was using my 1TB and then all memory (pictures) dissapeared. Still shows memory used/available, just all the files are gone.

Those files are hidden folders.
For that connect it to computer then open my computer go to tools menu->folder option.
then click view tab enable "show hidden files and folders" and disable check box of "hide system files" then apply then you can see your files as hidden folder.
then open it then copy all files to local drive also scan computer and harddrive with updated antivirus because it (harddrive) is infected of virus.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

As soon as turn computer on it says operating system not found -- i can get it to go to one other thing and it ask for HDD user password which i have no earthly idea what it can be

1. i hope you have backed up of all your data from the HDD.
2. format the HDD and reload the OS - but this time, make sure that you have atleast 2 partitions.
3. keep all your important in the second (non-system) partition.
4.after you have reloaded the OS, please get a good anti-virus and anti-spyware application and scan your computer regularly with them.

Can a virus infected pc be treated instead of reformatting it?

Yes it is possible but it may not fully remove the virus, it depends upon the type of virus infection.
If you have not installed a virus protection program, then this makes your task more difficult.
I would try a WEB base virus removal program first, provided you can connect to the Internet. Try these WEB base virus links first and if successful then install a virus program.
WEB-based Virus Scan Trend Micro housecall
http://housecall.trendmicro.com
symantec - Norton Security Scan
http://security.symantec.com
If all fails then you need to format your hard disk and install Windows again together with the computer's device drivers and your programs.

My harddrive was infected by a virus worm32/sality i put it in a external usb connection then scan all its files to clean out all the infected files and directories by using avira antivirus after i scanned...

The only problem about putting the hard drive into an external box and doing a scan is that most virus softwares move the infected files to the virus vault or virus chest. By doing so it may have moved some of the operating system files to the other machine. If you have the original operating system cd, I would recommend trying to do a restore of the lost files by inserting the operating system disk and allowing the machine to boot from the disk. Then it should pop up a window that asks if you want to do an install or repair. Click on repair and it should go through and replace the missing files with a new version. If you cannot make it work, you may have to put it back into the external drive case and try putting them in manually. I have on occasion seen some destructive viruses that will disable the hard drive when the infection is removed. In a worst case scenario, You might try putting the hard drive back into the external case then moving all possible files to the other machine. Then install the drive back into the original machine and try doing a clean install of the operating system and moving the files back afterwards.

Computer is very slow and sometimes freezes disk cleanup and defragmenter dont improve things

Sounds like one of two things:
1) Hardware (hardrive) failure-
Could have a dead spot on your harddrive. Have you had any blue screens associated with this? If so your hard drive may be shot. Backup what you can and replace the hard drive.
or
2) Malware/trojan/spyware clogging up resources-
Download and run Spybot- Search and Destroy and run a full update and scan. Also update and run your anti-virus software. If you don't have one, or want a second opinion, search for Avast AV, great free anti-virus tool.

Dropped hard disk

A dropped hard disk that makes clicking sounds when you plug it into a computer is dead. It would be cheaper to get a new one, and I doubt if you could get anyone to repair it.
