I have a Sharp HD TV that I got a couple of years ago. My issue is when I'm watching a movie either on cable or on a DVD, if it is a dark movie than my picture adjusts to the screen and actually makes the picture darker. The screen becomes so dark sometimes that it is hard to see what is going on in the movie. I have to make my room completely dark just to find out what is going on. IS this a problem with my tv or the settings I'm using? It only autoadjusts when I'm watching movies. IT's fine while I'm watching regular tv.
This seems to help a little, but is there any way to turn off the auto adjust feature. Because even with the brightness turned all the way up, the tv still adjusts the picture and tries to make it darker? This seems to help a little, but is there any way to turn off the auto adjust feature. Its highly likely a cable issue. You know which cable connection is wrong if are using component in and out. But change to a new connection cable whatever it is and I think it will be solved
I w having this same issue when watching a Blu-Ray disc. I found it to be dependent upon what picture mode the TV was set to. By this I mean certain picture modes would cause the TV to dim during dark scenes of a movie. Changing the picture mode helped a lot.
If you are getting the same problem with both TV monitors it could then be assumed it's an input problem to the TV monitor. If you are using a digital output from your receiver it could be the cabling. If you are using an analog output from your receiver it is probably coming from the receiver.
Digital video processing does have issues with darker scenes.
Can you try another video source seperate from the receiver like a DVD or better yet an analog VHS, if you still have one. Good luck and let me know.
Do the lines only appear on the Cable box input? It maybe be a problem with your cable. Try to isolate the problem.
Do you see the lines on all sources such as your DVD player as well? If you press the MENU button on the Sharp remote, do the lines go through the menu as well? If yes, it is most likely a TV problem.
A bunch of lines sounds like it is most likely a problem with the connection with the LVDS cable, if not that, then a defective main board.
There isn't really much you can do about it now. Since the TV is less than a year old, I suggest calling Sharp to locate a local authorized service center.
To adjust screen size, choose the View Mode feature on the top right of the remote control. Zoom size is full screen for watching DVD movies, but sometimes there is still a thin black band due to the formatting of the dvd (unless you buy full screen versions) S. Stretch view mode is best for TV Movies.(usually fills whole screen) Occasionally there are TV movies which just don't respond to being stretched to fill the screen, it's just the way the signal is coming through . 1080i/p detects the resolution of the signal and displays the same number of pixels on the screen, but a 720p signal input will be viewed in full screen.
This seems to help a little, but is there any way to turn off the auto adjust feature. Because even with the brightness turned all the way up, the tv still adjusts the picture and tries to make it darker?
