I got this TV
for nothing. I successfully fixed a folded display problem (as per solution found on this site) and thought
everything was OK, but then I realized the TV has another, more subtle
problem. The brightness is uneven, i.e. the left side of the picture is
darker than the right side. This is particularly obvious when displaying
a black image. It annoys me and I would like to fix that.
What
should I look at? I used to work in the electronics field, but that was
ages ago. I don't have much experience in TV repair, but I know a few
things about TVs and video. I remember one can adjust the color purity
by moving the yoke on the CRT's neck. Is brightness also affected? Or
should I look at the horizontal drive circuit? I would intuitively
suspect there's a bad capacitor in that circuit.
I have the
schematics for this TV. I also have the service manual, but I don't have
the original remote control, which is used to access a secret service menu.
However, I doubt the hidden settings would allow me to solve that uneven
brightness problem.
This problems are on the video board, that connected to the CRT.The video IC inverter, all the capacitors around it.Some of the capacitors, that help to divert the colors are dead.Don't mess with the CRT Yoke, put it back to the original mark and tighteen it before,u misalign the three colors guns for good.

If the remote control is found faulty, buy an other one. In most cases, the remote control will be faulty.
I recently got this tv from somone because of this exact problem. I have found a solution that works for mine. You can check to see if it works for you also. What I did was take of the back cover. 3 screws (1 big one in the center and 2 little ones below it). Next look at the power board. If plugged in and turned on the red light on the power board should be lit up. If so your power board is fine. Next find the component that has 4 switches. I manually turned these on and turned the tv on and it worked! Has been working ever since!
The CIC chip, also known as lock out chip, may have gone bad. Here is a quote from a site I found.
"Every SNES control deck has a regional lockout chip (known as a CIC),
as does every original SNES game cartridge. Before a game is loaded,
the console will attempt to communicate with the CIC chip on the game
cartridge. If the CIC chip doesn't respond or does not correspond with
the consoles CIC, the console won't load the game. In most cases, a
black screen is displayed."
Go to PS3 / Display settings. Set superbright OFF, even if you don't have HDMI. Set Cross Color Reduction to OFF. Set Display to only one resolution, not all of them as you probably have it now. Set it ot the highest possible resolution and uncheck all other boxes. The 480i is always on by default. The issue, which was very annoying, was fixed for me. I have a mitsubishi 65 inch RP that is pretty bright on daytime/sunlight scenes, so I never thought it was the PS3, but only whet the PS3 was used did this occur. I scanned this site via google to find that nobody else appeared to have resolved this. So after some changes and testing this solution worked for me. Enjoy! - Dave Walz
P.S. I think the only real fix was to set just one display resolution, but I am now watching a movie and am not going to stop it to find out. :) That's for whomever follows this posting to find out for themselves. Either way, this is working great.
I have the exact same problem with my AE700. It a started about the same time, around 2500 hours for me. I lived with it untill I could afford a new bulb which arrived yesterday. The old bulb was still working at a 3603 hours when I installed the new one. But the new bulb didn't fix the problem for me either. I may try to take it apart this weekend and give it a good cleaning.
