How to fit new grill elemnt to stove type 720EF?

If the element and the indicator light both stopped working this suggests a problem with the power supply for the grill control. Either the grill control has no power going to it or it is faulty and requires replacement. If you are not sure what you are doing you'd better get a tech. to look at it, it can be fairly complicated for the untrained person.

The hob is normally totally independent of the oven. What is actually working or not working on the oven? i.e. does the grill still work, is the clock OK and can you set it, or is everything totally dead?

1) Isolate the unit by turning the power off at the main switch.
2) Remove appliance from housing unit.
a) When handling the appliance care should be taken to ensure the outer frame trim is not damaged.
b) The appliance is secured into the housing unit by 2 screws through the top corners of the front frame, open the doors and unscrew the 2 corner screws.
c) Grasp the bottom of the frame, pull forward and out onto a suitable surface.
3) Unscrew the top and rear panel securing screws and lift the panels clear.
4) From the rear of the appliance, pull off the 4 (top) grill element leads and the earth lead.
5) From inside the oven unscrew the 2 screws from the grill mounting plate.
The above is from the Handbook. I assume from point 5 the element is then free to be removed. reverse the procedure to fit the new element.

With your fault, can you here the switch operating, if not it just may be stuck?

Is the cooling fan running in the oven? Does it also continue to run when the oven controls are turned off to let the oven cool down?
There are ventilation grills below each door on the oven. You can see these when the doors are fully open, just look under each door to see if they are clear and not blocked up.

No, there is no reset button. However, the grill will only work when the front is down as there is a microswitch which operates to provide connectivity when it is in this position. This is to stop the grill overheating. The switch could have gone faulty.
Does the top oven work ok?
When you operate the grill there are two options, part or full. Are they both failing? Does the cooling fan switch on when either grill is operated?

there is a safety stat/fuse on top of the oven exterior i think you will find that it also has blown. Make sure you have isolated the appliance at the fuse board first though, Good Luck

The grills appear to be independant of each other. Does the oven still work and the oven light come on?

Depending on your answer it could be that the Top Oven Switch has gone faulty. The Grill Regulator and the Switch work together on the top oven. To get at both you will need to take the top of the oven off.
