I have a zenith p42w46x. It was given to me by a friend as it stopped working. You plug it in, the red power indicator on the front is on. Then you press the power button and hear a click, the light becomes yellow and stays on for 5 seconds, then changes its color into green and stays for 10 seconds. Then goes a click again and the light becomes red again. That's it. The screen doesn't show any signs of life as well as the sound. Please advise.

I assume there is power in the power outlet. Try changing the input device to something you are sure, works such as a DVD player. Look for any loose contacts in RC jacks/sockets/Cable. Switch off TV manually, switch off power, remove plug and retry after 48 hours. If problem persists, please refer it to a qualified service technician.

Either by your remote or manual. Some models have a master rocker switch close to the ac input where your cord plugs into. That kills all power to the set for vacation purposes.

Hi I am Vortash Although this is trademarked as a Zenith the manufacturer of this set is LG and the prefix P42W46X is one of their set product numbers and is actually one of their RU-42W46X 10/11/12 -series televisions . The problem you are describing may be either incorrect display setting or incorrect picture fomat letterbox .. 4.3 pan or 16.9 widescreen I am guessing you do not have the manual for this set and I have found one on this site http://www.safemanuals.com under the LG P46W46X prefix FREE it may help you to solve this.
Another problem it may be is a power supply fault , components under heat conditions cann change value and restrict power flow causing many different faults this is particuarly true of semiconductors prior to failiure ..Try adjusting the set according to the manual and if this does not cure the problem I am afraid you are going to have to get the set looked at by an engineer . your tv is talking to you basically, is telling you that the lamp has to be replaced. this is a common problem with this dlp tvs, when the lamp is bad the shuts off within minutes, so just replace the lamp my friend.

common problems with these, usually customers here a loud pop. then the screen goes blank. I would try...
Some of these have a 4 pin test on the control board that you can jump with solder to get test pattern. If you get it to do that then these boards maybe good and would replace the control board. if nothing happens, then
the upper & lower drive also the Ysus and Zsus boards all at the same time.
last could be a defective panel.

Chances are, if it's an older set, componants have changed value through use over time, which also includes the picture tubes and associated driver circuits. The way to compensate for this color drift is through adjustments. Either turn the red down a little, or turn the blue and/or green UP. Be carefull though as there are potentially dangerous voltages in and around the circuit boards and picture tubes.

It might be one of the power supplies. There are three in this model. One for the sound, one for the video, and one for the computer components. The video power supply is probably shot. They cost about $200 a peice from LG. If there was a "pop" sound when the video stoped, then it might be one of the circuit boards in the back. Yet again, they are three, each costing around $200 from LG.
