That is a safety switch that is in place to prevent the refrigerator from catching on fire. They can get weak and fail. Go to your local RV parts department and purchase a new thermal switch (They may give you one since it is a part of a recall kit that the dealership receives for free). Install the new switch and see if it holds, if it does not then you have other issues and need to have the unit serviced.
There is a recall on this product. Go to www.Dometic.com and look for the recall info...or try this link http://67.238.126.140/recall.php put in your model and serial number to see if yours if a recall...I believe it is and I have found the problems you are talking about at this website http://www.gasrefrigeration.net/Why%20they%20fail.htm. which is exactly why they are recalling this model refrigerator. Dometic recently expanded its recall on a population of two-door refrigerators. The original recall included some two-door refrigerators manufactured between April 1997 and May 2003. The new recall focuses on models manufactured between June 2003 and September 2006.
