When TV is turned on, there is no picture but a very, very faint verticle haze in the middle of the screen. At first, the power switch lamp is green and blinks slowly, then at a faster pace. At the same time, there is a very faint beep for a short time, almost like a telephone ringing. Eventually, the grreen blinking light turns red, eventually stops blinking into a steady red, then it turns off at some point and time. It was suggested that I attempt to change the lamp, but will the bulb replacement resolve the problem?

Green light is on but screen is black

It's either the backlight lamp or backlight inverter is busted due to a power failure or fluctuation. Here's how to determine which is which:
  1. Grab a flashlight.
  2. Turn on the TV.
  3. Shine the flashlight onto the screen.
  4. If you cannot see any display even a faint one, the backlight inverter is dead, else the backlight lamps are busted.
  5. Replace which ever is the culprit.

No Picture on a Hitachi 42EDT41A

Then it is probably not cold solder joints. You wouldn't think that an lcd TV would need a high voltage transformer but it does. They are very small compared to CRT televisions but they power up the screen. Without it you have no backround light to veiw what is there. There are two neon lamps on either side of the screen but they rarley go bad. My guess is the transformer ot the power supply feeding it.

I changed the LCD lamp, but there is still a yellow haze.

The yellow haze is the result of the blue polarizer burnt-in, you will find it sitting in front of the dlp chip.

Green Haze in middle of TV, Words not sharp

The coolant in the chambers that are part of the CRTs(picture tubes) has been contaminated by foreign matter and the high temps created by the CRTs. The coolant can be replaced but its an expensive and time consuming operation. Some of the parts needed for this repair may also be no longer available. I'd start shopping.

Your AUTO settings button is stuck in! Try tapping on it a few times. Otherwise you may have to take the frame apart so you can get at the button.

Red spot in the middle of the screen

You most likely have a burn in on the surface of one of the picture tubes. What you need to do to confirm this, would be to take off the front screen, and with the set turned on, look directly into each one of the lenses, and see if you see a mark on the green or the blue tube. if this is the case, and I am pretty sure it is, the picture tube will need to be replaced, but this set is not a young thing, as the green faint lines is most likely a bad capacitor in the screen drive circuit. If the picture tube is indeed burned on the surface, most likely be better off buying a new TV set. Good Luck

Green dot in middile of my screen

The green dot in the center sounds like a burn mark on one or more of the picture tubes inside the set, and the curved lines are telling me that you have a problem in the convergence circuits. The blue haze around everything white tells me you either have a lot of dust build up on the lens over the CRTs, or your picture tube(s) are very weak. If this set is over about 12 years old, I would replace it. I doubt if you will be able to get the green dot out of the picture without changing the tubes which would be VERY expensive.
