Brother DCP-110C Ink display is incorrect

I have the Brother DCP-110C multifunction center and it says the black in is low, I have read the book and followed the advice about hitting the ink button, but it wont let me say the black ink IS brand new and full, it is constantly reminding me the black ink is running low, but I know its a brand new cartridge. How do I get the machine to acknowledge that there is ink in there?
