Amber Power Light

I recently had a problem with my Dell Dimension 3000 not booting up properly. I called a tech and they explained to me that the motherboard needed to replaced. I bought a new motherboard and processor and I am still having the same problem. Could you please provide some sort of solution for this problem?

Hi I have a similar problem with my Dimension 3000. It's out of warranty now, so it's up to me to fix it or not really. I am not too sure wether it is the motherboard or the processor which has overcooked. The computer starts occasionally for 10-15 seconds then switches itself off. After that usually it wouldn't reboot... I doubt that it is a processor problem, to me it is the motherboard or the power supply (but really it wouldn't start at all occasionally if that would be the case??!!). Any suggestion? Thanks

my 3000 is doing the same thing. I have replaced the motherboard, and the power supply. I have also tried the suggestion I read here 2 or 3 times. The light is still amber and now it willnot turn off by power button and when you plug it up it comes on right away by itself. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

If your computer is running kind of sluggish, you can fix it with an easy clean up of your registry. Here's a link to a free scan that works well:

I've used this one and it sped up my computer by quite a bit. Hopefully this helps.

Hi,

Just try doing flea power & the power cycle.

1. Disconnect all the peripherals like keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner & monitor and power supply from the CPU.

And press & hold the power button for 1 min, it will release the flea power from the mother board.

Restart the system & check.

2. Disconnect everything.wait for 5-10 minutes and then connect every thing & start the system.

Restart the system & check.

You can run the diagnostics by

Restart the system.

At the Dell logo screen, press the <F12> key .

At the One Time Boot menu, press the <Down> arrow key to highlight Diagnostics, then press <Enter> to begin PSA.

You will get the error code.

The definition for the error codes can found in the link :

And then try this

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/tree?c=us&dl=false&l=en&s=gen&treeid=37A8BFBB0F32CBC1E040A68F5B283B2C&doclang=en&cs=

Then try

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/tree?c=us&dl=false&l=en&s=gen&treeid=37A8BFBB0F32CBC1E040A68F5B283B2C&doclang=en&cs=

Diagnostics will isolate the issue to be with which part.

Replace that one then it will be fine.

Good Luck.

Try a new power supply. It could be putting out too little voltage. Or take it to a tech that can check the power output for you. .

Amber lights at the front of my dell dimension cant boot up

This can mean various things, but I've had a few of these happen and it's usually caused by a failed power supply. Calling their tech support they will ask you to remove memory and disconnect hard and optical drives then try again. If it still is amber, it's a power supply.

Blinking amber light and wont boot up.

if the power button was blinking amber, unplug your tower, and hold the power button for 30 seconds to 1 minute, to use any excess power stored in the capassitors in the pc. this was told to me by a dell tech, it is a small issue with the 3100=E310, and 5150=E510 Dimension desktops

Can't boot up Dell 5100 Dimension, amber light flashes

When you mean the amber light, is that the blinking hard drive access light or the power light? Different cases have different colors on it. Mine has blue and green lights.

If you see the boot screen (bios) and then after it goes to boot, does it blink and hang?

This could be a simple operating system issue, hard drive or hardware/motherboard issue. If you could provide more information, that would help.

PC can't boot LEDs are all Amber colour and flashing.

the memory sticks are not connected properly as you are getting the beeps out of the computer when turning on...
if in case the memory cards are connected properly the system should not beep while turning it on so please try to reconnect the memory cards properly & see if you are getting the prompt"the amount of system memory has changed" coming up in that case the system is working fine.

Amber light on power button of Dell Dimension 4500

ok - the amber light of doom on a dell means one of two things - either your power supply is pooched - or your motherboard, If under warranty dell will send out a friendly tech to replace them - if not it will cost you a bit. get the price and consider if it worth upgrading instead. Contact your dell rep or dell tech support and see what they say
