My printer answers all phone calls

I have a mx700. It really works very well, with the exception that it intercepts all phone calls after about 30 seconds...thinks they are faxes. very annoying. I have the menu set correctly. I heard somewhere that it thinks female voices are faxes, but it does it with males too. Didn't have that problem with the 530. I'm guessing it an internal problem and can't be fixed but I thought I would put this out there anyhow. Thanks.

SET your phone line to DRPD and the printer will not try to answer.

With assistance from Canon I did a data print-out of my printer. If the "ROM" version in the upper left of page one comes up less than 1.08 you have the first stock of that printer that came out on the shelf and the sensitivity level of the fax is set too low causing the fax to interrupt voice calls. It can be repaired by a certified Canon Tech in your area or, if still under the one year warranty, Canon will send you a replacement printer. But they'll only send you a refurbished printer. The Canon repair Tech in my area couldn't guarantee the repair would be under warranty even though my printer is only 6 months old. Canon flatly refused to send me a new replacement, even though they openly admit the machine was defective when put on the shelf. My suggestion is to NEVER buy a Canon product again. They do not stand behind their product, even when they've messed up.

I used to have a brother fax machine that received faxes when it detected a fax signal when my telephone's answering machine turned on. I tried all different settings with my Canon MX700 but it still won't...

Issue: Unable to receive faxes with an answering machine on the same line
Solution: Reduce the number of times the answering machine will ring before it answers the call (perhaps 3 rings max.)

An incoming fax may "hang up" if it takes too long for the machine to answer.

Is it possible to prevent the MX700 from receiving & printing incoming faxes (junk faxes)?

It is not designed to do so but try this... Go into your FAX menu and select "Display Device Settings." From there, choose RX settings and then DRPD. DRPD is designed to allow you fax to only answer calls with a distintive ring pattern. By setting it to a pattern that doesn't exist, it should allow the calls to be ignored. Try setting it to something like short short long. Once thats done, go into "User Settings" and "RX Level" and set the volume to zero so you don't hear it ring. If that doesn't work about all you can do is keep the phone line unplugged until you need to send a fax.

How to set up auto answer on hp 2610

Go into the fax menu/settings and specify number of rings before answering.

Ihave a conon mx700 and the fax tone rings when I get a phone call

Go through the menu on your Canon, and change the setting from auto answer to off. You might also want to change the number of rings before answering (to like to 7 or 10)
