Will PIXMA MP640 print with an empty cartridge

If you try all this you need to replace the print head,the print head is under the cartridge.If i have been useful please give me a vote :).Thanks

I have the same problem. I have now bought and installed 5 different blue cartridges and none of them will work. I thought the problem was the cartrdiges but I'm thinking now. after buying an original Canon cartridge this morning, that it is the printer that has a problem.

Can anybody help?

Sorry to say this, I had a Canon Pixma and it wouldn't print unless you replaced empty cartridge, although I did have some success for a while longer by pressing OK button?

I'm not sure if this is possible with the 9500 (it won't be if the 9500 uses chipped cartridges)...

But have you installed the photo version of a Magenta or Cyan in the Non-phone cartridge... ie: PM instead of M, or PC instead of C.

It's a long shot as I don't know that particular models age, etc... but it's been done (by me included *blush*).

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.

It sounds like the cyan and yellow cartridges are empty. Try new cartridges.

Your Cyan cartridge is empty and need replacement. Maybe you can clean head of Cyan cartridge with alcohol but symptoms are the empty cartridge!

The cartridges may still be at fault, or there is a problem with the processor board in the printer. I have also seen problems with the ink jets in these.

That is happening because you have "smart" chips on your cartridges, so even though you know there is still some ink left in the tank, if the chip says stop, the printer will stop printing. There is a way to bypass that and that is by using a re-setter. You can either buy one or ask to re-set your cartridge in a refill shop.
You can also try holding the "resume" button (triangle in circle for about 10 seconds for each cartridge, sometimes doing that resets the cartridges.
Do not refill the magenta and cyan cartridges if they are not empty, you'll just be wasting your money. Better use it to buy a re-setter ;)
