It's a matter of the Pixel Aspect Ratio.
You can interpret the media to a different Pixel Aspect Ratio.
Dont be worried about just clicking things and trying things out. Seriously. You arent going to break it.
Changing the PAR may be easier if this is a whole lot of clips, or you can copy/paste your scale to them all.
Or, you can edit the whole thing in 4:3 and do the stretch on export (although any text will get warped too). There are many ways to get to the same end point.

To view a video in LG KP500 in full screen, the video resolution shud be 400x240, which is the exact screen pixel of cookie. So, try converting into that size & see that in landscape mode......
