Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

How to use VOIP Phone number in Philippines

US VOIP phone number can be used in the Philippines. For example, If you're Vonage subscriber (I used to), you can hook your phone adapter (basically a router pre-configured to work with Vonage) to your DSL/Cable modem.

You can make/receive phone calls to/from the US, depending on your subscription type. Usually, there are unlimited call plans. All you need is a high speed internet connection.

I have comcast cisco cable that is working fine but when I hook up vonage I get no internet why?

More than likely you need to enable split tunneling on vpn settings in router. If Vonage uses a vpn tunnel like other VOIP services do, then it is probably encrypting all traffic on your Internet/WAN interface. With split tunneling enabled it will only encrypt traffic to and from Vonage. I'm making a few assumptions here, but it should be worth a check.

no house phone

check your QoS for your router to go to your VOIP device... or, set ports to forward to your VOIP device (ie. vonage).

trouble with paradyne or linksys

Just saw your post, so please accept my apologies for being almost a month late in responding, as I only joined this service on March 26th.

1. When a modem has both usb and ethernet, only ONE of the two should be used as most isp modems will allow one or the other.

2. Your Vonage should be discreet and not intermingled with the rest of your system. It would be better to connect the Vonage to a router, and not the router to the Vonage. iow, do not connect the Vonage modem between the isp's modem and your router.

3. denigration of service or slowdown is typical with VOIP if more than 2 systems whether telephone or other systems are connected, due to the ringer voltage splitting that occurs when you put more units on the Vonage, or any other Voip modem. One ISP solves this by providing separate outputs for Voip and Ethernet.

Observation of these rules should speed up your system.

No dial tone on headset 2

If you have a regular phone, then connect it directly to the Vonage phone router. Be sure and connect to the correct port on the router (mine has 2 ports, and I use both, but a single line subscriber would only hook to Line 1).
See if you get a dial tone with the standard phone hooked up (we are testing that the Vonage is good.first, then we'll deal with the Uniden phone.). If not, what do the light's indicate on the Vonage router? Have you subscribed to Vonage? Do you have a cable between your router and the Vonage router?

Reply back back what you find and I can help you more.

connect my phone adapter

You need to register/subscribe to a VOIP provider first like Vonage and the likes. Then you need to register through your VOIP provider the phone ports of your router. ISP is different from VOIP.
