Go to your Control Panel and then open "Hardware & Sounds" in Windows 7 or in Windows XP open "Sounds and Audio devices". In the "Volume" tab there is a check box "Place volume icon in task bar". Check it. If there is no check box right click on the volume icon there and create a shortcut.

In this case you have to look at the sound driver. Try to reinstall it.

You will want to go to control panel and go to sounds, if you go through the tabs (probably the first) there will be a check box that says 'show sound icon on system tray' enable this and whala.

Sound on mute

Look to the bottom right corner of your screen. There should be a small speaker icon next to your clock/wireless icons. Click on it to open a window to adjust your volume.

No sound from you tube videos, other sound on PC just fine...............

There are 2 likely problems:

1 - Next to the "play" button below the video, there is a speaker icon. Hold your mouse over it and a bar will appear. Make sure the slider isn't all the way over to the left.

2 - In the bottom right corner of your desktop, next to the clock, there's another speaker icon. While youtube is open, right click it, and select "open volume mixer." Check that the slider for internet explorer (or firefox etc. if you use it) is up the top - you may need to scroll across to find it if you have several programs open

Have an HP laptop that has lost it's sound

Look at the speaker icon in the lower right corner by the clock. If you see a red circle with a line through it, then it's muted. All you have to do is left click on the speaker and the volume control will open up and you can un-mute it from there.

The sound on my computer is not loud enough to hear without using head phones. Is there a way to fix this problem? I have the speakers up on 100 % and the sound is so low that me and my husband cannot...

Left click on the little speaker icon in the bottom right corner next to the clock. Check to see if the sound is muted or not. Also go to Control Panel - Sounds and turn up the volume on everything in there until u get sound. Believe me it will get loud.

The prob is that sound is not coming from my computer.

Look near the clock in the lower left hand corner of your screen and look for a little speaker icon, if you can't see it, click the little arrow pointing left to expand that area and look for the speaker icon again. Double click this icon and check to see that somehow the volume was accidentally adjusted to the minimum or the mute check box was checked.

Poor sound

Could be your sound settings. Right-Click on the "speaker" icon at bottom right hand side of your desktop next to the clock and click on sounds. All sound settings are there.

If you can't find the "speaker" icon, you can find sound options in the Control Panel.
