To scan documents for editing and saving as PDF file, you will need to install the Lexmark OCR scan software on your computer. The Lexmark scan software (no downloadable version) is only available on the installation disc that came with your printer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance.

To install the OCR scan software from the printer installation CD:

1. Insert CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the installation screen open, click Cancel.
2. Double-click on My Computer / Computer.
3. Right-click on Lexmark XXXX CD and select Open.
4. Double-click on OCR.
5. Double-click on Setup.exe to install the OCR software. Your operating system will then determine the language in which it is installed.

it seems that your windows has crashed.insert new window installation disc and chage the boot device priority and give the 1st boot priority to cd rom and 2nd boot priority to hard disk and then disable all other boot device. then install the windows.

If you have the driver CD that you recieved with your printer, follow the below steps to install the saftware:

1. Turn on your computer.
   
   
2. On your computer quit any open applications, including virus checkers.
   
   
3. Insert the MultiPASS MP730/700 Setup CD-ROM into your CD drive. The [MP Setup] splash screen will appear automatically.
   
   
4. 1. If MP Setup does not start automatically, on the Windows desktop, double-click My Computer (on Windows XP, click Start then click My Computer).
      
      
   2. Double-click the CD-ROM icon. If MP Setup does not start, double-click 'Setup.exe' (on Windows XP, 'Setup').
      
      
5. In the MP Setup splash screen, click 'Install MP Drivers'.
   
   Note: For Windows 2000 users, if Service Pack 1 or later is not installed, MP Setup will display a message and installation will be aborted.
   
   
6. Follow the on-screen instructions, clicking the appropriate button to move from one screen to the next.
   
   
7. MP Setup will install some system files and may prompt you to restart your computer. If you are not prompted to restart, click 'Finish' in the MP Drivers Setup window and then proceed to step 7.
   
   
8. 1. If you are prompted, make sure radio button 'Yes, I want to restart my computer now.' is selected in the MP Drivers Setup window and then click 'Finish'. DO NOT remove the CD-ROM at this stage. MP Setup splash screen will open after Windows has restarted.
      
      
   2. If you had to restart your computer and the MP Setup screen is not displayed or you closed it, on the Windows desktop, double-click My Computer (on Windows XP, click Start then click My Computer).

9. In the MP Setup splash screen, click 'Install MP Toolbox.'

11. At the MP Toolbox Setup dialog box, click 'Finish'.
    
    
12. Confirm the MultiPASS is turned on.
    
    
13. Connect the USB cable to the MP730 and computer USB ports. Windows will detect the printer and proceed to install the driver files.
    
    
14. Your MultiPASS includes additional software applications that you can install now or at a later date. To install the software, click 'Install Utility Software' and then proceed through each installation.

If you CD installer is for Vista, and you are using windows XP, it will not run and you will really get that error. If your CD Installer is for Vista or XP and your Operating System is linux or MAC, you can't really get to install it. Please find the appropriate installer for your OS. Or, you might have not run the right setup.exe program in your CD.

If u want it to factory status then u need to reformat

Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, or insert the first Windows XP Setup boot disk into the floppy drive disc if you are starting from Setup boot disks, and then restart the computer.
NOTE: To start your computerfrom the Windows XP CD-ROM or from the Setup boot disk, your computer must be configured to start from the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive or the floppy disk drive.
In some cases, you may have to modify your computer's BIOS settings to do this.
(If you are starting from the Windows XP Setup boot disks, insert each of the additional disks when you are prompted, and then press ENTER to continue after inserting each disk.)
At the Welcome to Setup page, press ENTER to continue.
Press F8 to accept the Windows XP Licensing Agreement.

If an existing Windows XP installation is detected, you are prompted to repair it. Press ESC (do not repair).
All existing partitions and unpartitioned spaces are listed for each physical hard disk. Use the arrow keys to select the partition or space where you want to create a new partition, and then press D to delete an existing partition or press C to create a new partition using unpartitioned space.
If you press D to delete an existing partition, you must then press L (or press ENTER, and then press L if it is the System partition) to confirm that you want to delete the partition. Repeat this process for each of the existing partitions that you want to use for the new partition.
When all the partitions are deleted, you can then select the resulting unpartitioned space and then press C to create the new partition.
Type the size (in megabytes, or MB) that you want to use for the new partition, and then press ENTER, or just press ENTER to create the partition using the maximum size.
If you want to install Windows XP, use the arrow keys to select the partition you want to install Windows XP on, and then press ENTER.
Select the format option that you want to use for the partition, and then press ENTER. The options are:

• Format the partition by using the NTFS file system (Quick)
• Format the partition by using the FAT file system (Quick)
• Format the partition by using the NTFS file system
• Format the partition by using the FAT file system

You may also see:

• Leave the current file system intact (no changes)

Most people will want to choose: "Format the partition by using the NTFS file system".
After Setup formats the partition, follow the on-screen instructions to continue Setup until Windows XP fully installs.

You can repair that by booting your system using the CD ROM and the select to repair windows.

If ever this will not solve then;
You should backup your files and reinstall the windows operating system.

In installing operating system you need the following:
1 windows bootable disc/ Operating System REcovery Disc
2.Cd /DVD rom


Boot your system any of this CD/DVD disc and then follow the on screen instruction.

After installation, don,t forget to install the drivers of your system that was enlosed in your system.

INSTALL VISTA ANY WAY the problem is that windows can use the drive..
BOOT OF THE VISTA DISC

enter setup when the system boots up
go to booting options
and select the dvd rom as the first boot device
ensure the vista disc is in the drive
and save and exir setup
it will tell you to pree any key to boot from cd/dvd
and it will install vista without any hassle

Please check If your CD drive is detected on BIOS, if yes then Put a Windows XP bootale CD (checkout for the Service Pack) and choose boot from CD in the BIOS and go for "repair option" after the Agreement "I Agree-press F8" session. complete the installation then try installing the printer.
