I have a 25 y. Proton 300 radio, which until recently has been flawless. It now reverberates and seems to have "ghost" sounds, even when sharply tuned. What's wrong????can it be fixed???where could I take in san francisco for repairs?

It sounds like the tuner is out of alignment. A number of things can cause this kind of problem. However, a realignment is a very costly proposition, especially when considering the used value of the Proton 320. If you really like this radio, you might want to try buying a used example off of eBay. They come up very frequently. Only... be selective. Don't pick anything from a seller without a lot of good feedback. And don't overpay ($50 tops).

I have a Proton car but I have never heard of a Proton radio.

As a matter of general interest, the flywheel tuning system was used on early radios before the superheterodyne system brought us agc lines and such sophistications. Selecting another station was a noisy business and flywheel tuning allowed the dial to be traversed quickly with a flick of the wrist. Those flywheels were heavy and mounted in ball bearings...

The trouble with trying to obtain spare parts for radios is mostly you can't. The manufacturer uses mostly bought-in standard electronic and hardware components and makes as little as possible, apart from the cabinet, the circuit boards and a few other bits and pieces and then will assemble what is generally regarded as a consumable item. The manufacturer's interest fades quickly when the warranty expires. Whatever (few) parts remain will be priced not to sell in order to build in obsolescence.
It is mostly expected that minor repairs will be handled by local repairers using standard parts until it becomes uneconomic or obsolete.

It might be possible to locate another plastic "flywheel" but searching would be a mammoth task. The number might not be a part number, might have been made by anyone and Proton is such a popular brand, model, type a search would not be easy.
The best alternative is to repair the original, adapt something else to do the same job or have a replacement made or devise another method of doing the same job.

Good Luck!

Highlander KYD-25/c Error E4 displayed

You want to look up Guangdong Chigo who are the manufacturers of this unit. They have a list of error codes/service manuals etc on their site.... From the PDF:
"1、Check whether the operation current and power of the unit is abnormal. 2、Check whether the speed and wind quantity of the fan is normal, otherwise replace the outdoor fan or capacitance 3、 Check whether the surface of the condenser is too dirty, and it should be cleaned when it is too dirty. 4、Check whether the unit is short of the refrigerant, add the refrigerant after leakage detection and repair welding. 5、 Check whether the sensor and electric control board is normal, otherwise replace the board."

Battery area

The batteries (2 AAA) are made as a back up for the clock and alarms only, and would not be powerful enough to run the radio on their own.
