I have a Brother 5240 printer. The toner light went on, so I replaced the ink cartridge. Then in just two weeks, it went on again. I replaced the cartridge again, thinking that we printed a lot of pages. Then within a week, the light went on again. I took the cartridge back, thinking it was defective. I received a new one, but now the light is on again, and it did not even print a page. The printer is a year and two months old.
Try this... it reads the level of the toner and can become faulty. This clears it.
1: Turn off power and remove toner/drum
2: Tape the little spring loaded lever just inside the printer on the upper left hand side in the *DOWN* position! Do not replace drum yet and...
3: Turn power on to printer and let it cycle. Status/Toner lights will come on as usual.
4: Turn off printer, remove tape from lever, replace drum and turn back on.
