Panasonic Panafax UF-885 - Heavy lined marks down side of paper

Recently our fax machine has started scanning and sending documents with heavy lined marks down the left hand side of the page. I have cleaned out the whole scanning area, that I can reach, and still the same problem.
I presumed that it was just dirt that I could not reach, but here's the catch: It does not print/scan/send this mark all the time I just managed to do a copy on the machine with marks, then straight after did a copy with no marks?
Can someone please explain to me how this makes sense!

First print a report to see if the lines appear without using the scanner. If this is the case clean the charge wire. If you pin it down to the scanner, it is probably a poor solder joint on the cis unit. Take it out and run a hot soldering iron over all the joints on the reverse side of the cis.

Panasonic copier/fax UF 885

It sounds like you are stuck in the boot-up mode.

Try this:
Open the toner door and remove the cartridge
Turn the machine off
Open the document feeder by pulling straight up
While turning the machine back on, hold down the pointed switch actuator closest to the small glass
Close the document feeder..display should read "RAM INITIALIZE"
Scroll down to "SHIPMENT SET"
Press "SET"
Press "2" for "NO"
Wait for the machine to reboot (could take 5 mins)

Some times a bad toner cartridge will cause this.
If this does not work, you have a bad Main PC Board. Uneconomical to repair.
