This is a capstan problem on the tape drivers, you need to have it serviced rather than cleaned.

Bars across after reply recording

hi,
your camera's head is either damaged or may be dirt on the scanning chip of the head, try to clean it with a head cleaner tape, if the head is effected with clog, try to clean it several times. then test it with a prerecorded cassette. if there is no any progress, it means the head is faulty, it must replace with a new one.

Handy cam hi8 dcr

Try removing the battery and charging it. Then put the battery back on the camera. This will reset the cassette system. The cassette should open or close depending upon what status it is in. Once you get the camera to eject fully, clean your heads with a dry head cleaner cassette for Hi8 video. If your camera is still eating tape, could be a broken pin or damaged heads.

I have a Sony Handy cam DCR-HC30. When i put a cassette in, it says (reinsert the cassette).

-make sure that your tape is clean and dry
-clean the tape head inside the tape deck if you have a video head tape cleaner
*tape head: the one that reads the tape inside the camcorder.its the metal thing at the bottom inside the tape deck.
-or you can use a soft and dry Q-tip to clean it(dont use any liquid cleaners)
*or if confused where the tape head is....just clean all metal parts inside the tape deck and make sure you do it lightly with a soft dry Q-tip.

Sony DCR TRV510 and DCR TRV820 playback display problem

comon sony issue. Proble is low torque tension on the head and on clean of the video head. Sony's don't have alot of tension on their take up reel though. I can increase this for about $100 on most models. www.megaone.com/larry

if all the indicators i.e. battery condition, play mark, counter, etc are visible on the screen then it can be a simple problem of dirty video head. try using a head cleaning cassette or do the head cleaning manually, Open the cover by removing three screws on the right hand side next to the viewfinder. Slide it little towards front and pick it up. The video head will be visible.
