Okay, the Xbox 360 isn't reverse compatable, meaning you can't play regular xbox 360 games on it. The only version that is reverse compatable is the Xbox 360 Elite. SOrry :(
This is a built in temperature overheating contermeasure. Make sure your xbox is not in an enclosed area or on a carpet. If posssible, place a fan next to it and see if that gets you increased playtime. If it does, then you know its a problem with it overheating.
