Re: cyberhome 1200 dvd player/recorder
Chances are your laser needs to be either cleaned or aligned. If it's only cleaning then you will be best to do it correctly by removing the cover of the dvd player and properly cleaning the laser lens.
BEFORE YOU PROCEED< ELECTRICTY CAN KILL... ALWAYS TAKE EXTREME CARE WHEN DEALING WITH ELECTRICAL ITEMS THAT RUN FROM MAINS POWER>
Disconnect from power
Leave the unit to sit for 20 minutes to allow the power stored in the unit to drain.
Remove the top cover of the DVD player
Remove the cover that contains the top spindle
Using a NON ACETONE nail polish remover or good quality alcohol based cleaner, did the end of a cotton tip into the cleaner of choice.
Do not put the whole thing in, just the very tip is fine.
Using the tip and a gentle hand, clean the top of the laser lens. Do not push hard, just rub backwards and forwards, in circles etc, but NOT HARD.
Use the other end of the cotton tip to wipe the lens again, just a quick wipe to help remove any excess fluid, or dirt that maybe there.
Leave it open for about 5-10 minutes to ensure the laser lens is completely dry.
Re-assemble the unit.
Plug it in and away you go.
If this dosn't solve your problem, then you will need to have the laser realigned..that is a job for a tech and your local TV repair centre will be able to take care of it.
It's also possible that the laser unit is beyond repair, and then the laser assembly will need to be replaced.

What format are you recording in?If the recorder is set for DVD +R, and your playback machine won't read the disc, you may need to record on a DVD-R, or a DVD +-R. Or vice-versa. Some DVDRW discs will record on one machine and won't play on another. The media are incompatible.
Another problem - if you are copying a copy-protected disc, it might not play back either.
Are you sure you are finalizing the disc? This process takes 4-5 minutes and requires two or three responses sometime.
Pick a jhonson's bud -- dip it into the lens cleaner solution -- rub gently on the lens both clockwise and anticlockwsie -- leave it to dry -- cover up -- run the machine..
but be careful -- don't touch the lens with ur finger and dont try to rub roughly -- lens may go forever.
still if the problem remains , replace the lens.
Cyberhome has gone out of business in the US. My DVR 1200 stopped working but I was able to repair some capacitors on the power supply to get it going again. You can find more support information about the 1200 and 1600 on these websites:
and search for Cyberhome.
