Sub-zero 532 problem

I have a 20+/- year old 532 which has only had one major problem. I had one compressor replaced 5 years ago. I've also replaced two door closers but it has performed great. The refrigerator section keeps icing up half way down the back wall on the left side. I keep scraping it off but it comes back. Also I noticed the ice cubes keep getting melting down to a smaller size and now it will not make ice at all. I'm pretty handy. I think that one of the main reasons for having this type fridge is that it can actually be worked on and repaired if need be.

What about the ice maker that stopped working and the cubes shrinking prior to that. Doesn't the freezer have a seperate compressor? Can I change out the evaporator without puling the unit out of the wall or can I do it from inside?

Where can we get a wiring diagram/manual for our sub zero 532? We have ice forming on the back wall of the refrigerator. Also have noticed lately when closing the door you no longer hear the unit sealing/suctioning.

Sub Zero 700 suddenly stops after 12 years. Compresser is burning hot.

The compressor will normally be 100 to 110 degrees. I would suspect the thermostat or mouse damage in the freezer area. Also, if you keep it overstocked, to the point of poor air circulation, you could just have ice blockage. Put the frozen food in a styrofoam cooler or a good heavy corrugated box and give the unit a good full defrosting.

Is it normal for warm air to blow out of the fan at the top of a side by side sub zero. Its over 20 years old and we recently had the compressor replaced on the freezer side.

warm air will blow out from the condenser fan which is in the same area as the compressor.
There should be no warm air inside the freezer of fridge.

You might have a dirty condenser or possibly a freon leak. Check to see if the fans are running and lights are going off when the doors are closed. You didn't mention what the model number is, that might help.

The compressor is working but there is no cooling at the freezer section and lower portion of the no frost GE refrigerator. I checked the evaporator coil and there is no frost. What could be the problem?

First make sure your condensor fan motor is running and your condensor is clean. If this is ok and If the compressor is running, and you have no cooling at the evaporator, you have a freon system problem. This means that you have a bad compressor, freon leak, or a freon system restriction. If the refer is under 5 years old, it usually has a 5 year system warrantee that covers everything, parts and labor. Some brands have longer warrantees, Sub-Zero has a 6 to 12 year warrantee. If your refrigerator does not have a warrantee on it, it is not worth repairing. In Seattle Washington , this repair is usually 900 to 1100.00 and we don't recommend it unless it is a very expensive refrigerator such as the 8000 to 12000.00 Sub Zeros. Freezer Compressor Leaks Oil and Stopped Working

Hi I'm a subzero asc (Autorized service center) Subzero would not be responsible, your unit is out of there warranty. Now if the service company your dealing with is any good they can get a new compressor under a part warranty from there part distributor. Also in my many years working on subzero I have never seen oil dripping from the compressor unless you have a leak somewhere in the sealed system. Unfortunately the only thing you can do is see if your service provider will fix the unit. they will charge you labor if they get the part in warranty. It's possible that the service provider did not to the job properly but that's your word against there's. Good luck I hope everything works out for you..

Sub-Zero 532 (About 18 years old)

First do the simple things like cleaning the condensor coils and turning the defrost timer a few times, also check the evaporator motor or just listen to the fan by opening the freezer door. Also check the light switch, make sure it turns the light off every time you close the door.

Sub-zero Fridge not cooling and ice forming

You do have a leak and it will be in the evaporator. So call a factory authorized company and have it replaced. The warranty of a Sub Zero sealed system is full parts and labor for years 1-5 and parts only in year 6-12. Sub Zero expects a lot of their service companies so it behooves you to call one. To find an authorized company go to http://www.subzero.com/locator/locator.aspx?type=0&zip= or call 800-222-7820
