Car kit mode means one of two things, first it could have a piece of lint or paper stuck in the charge port making it think there is a car kit plugged in, or second it could be that some moisture got into the port and its giving a indication that something is plugged in. and thats why you're not getting any sound. There is no specific setting to turn on or off 'car kit' mode you can use a paper clip or something and mess with the port a little bit to see if 'car kit' goes away or replace phone

LG CHOCOLATE: identify phone number of incoming voicemail

try transferring the calls from ur mobile to the voicemail when u r not available....
in call settings u might have an option of forwarding the incoming call after so many particular number of rings... forward the calls to ur voicemail numbers using this and then u ll have the numbers in ur recieved calls list.
this might work but is only a temporary solution

Did you take it back to Verizon...I have 2 LG 8300 phones and they work great. See what Verizon can do for you as this is of course a Verizon phone.

Can't hear incoming or outcoming calls

Sometimes when a phone goes onto car kit, it means its time to get a new phone. It shouldnt be doing that on its own. You can either take it in, and have them look at it, or get another phone. Good luck. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
