Go to the support site for your motherboard, there you will get universal bus architecture device drive. Install this before you install the Audio/Sound driver.

If your pc OS is Windows XP service pack 3 you need to downgrade it to service pack 2. I personally fixed my brother pc audio by reinstalling a new OS Win XP service pack 2.

Note:
This is applicable to Asus Motherboard P5GC-MX/1333

I came across a similar Problem after formatting my frens PC with XP-SP2. The audio driver would stop installing after it reaches 80% or so in installation progress bar.Tried installing all those KB888111 and KB835221.googled around the net tried most methods and procedure, all useless. My mobo is P5GZ-MX945GZ ,which i never experienced any problem with XP or Vista ultimate, currently using. so i decided to install to P5GC-MX/1333 mobo with my driver which is also a realtek HD Audio driver (P5GZ-MX Realtek ALC883 Audio Driver) and guess what it worked flawlessly. Try it!!!!! posted on: sep-15-2008 You can download it from: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5GZ-MX/ALC883_V51005283.zip Hope it helped somebody ;)

I HAVE JUST INSTALLED XP-SP2. BUT I HAVE LOST MY MOTHERBOARD S/W. NOW,HOW COULD I INSTALL MY REALTEK SOUND MANAGER??? I NEED IMMEDIATE HELP. PLZ.

First download Realtek* ALC Audio Driver .

How to Install
1. Download this file to a folder on your PC.
2. Double-click the filename to launch the installation
IMPORTANT: Audio drivers may fail to install in Windows* XP 64-Bit Edition. Symptoms may include error messages, such as "Error in installation" or "Unknown error". How to solve ploblem it's error number 0xe0000227 realtek

here goes amed

There is really only 1 way to install the Realtek HD Audio drivers properly. No matter what all other forums say. Service Pack 3 is the main culprit as the drivers see that its above SP2 and dont install. I personally face this situation and was really distressed because it looked like either i will have to reinstall Windows Xp or have my new supercool and super monster computer without sound. Imagine having a monster PC with a motherboard with HD Audio and your driver doesnt install.
Both scenarios were something which i would never have approved of. Anyway so i Googled. I got 10s of solutions but most didnt work. Only 1 worked and i will put it here hoping that Google dear will catch it and people who face this problem installing the Realtek HD Audio 0xE000027.
  1. First Step is to make sure all instances Realtek Audio and its associative softwares are uninstalled from add remove programs and device manager. This includes Intel High Definition audio.
  2. On your PC change the CSDVersion registry key to Windows XP SP2:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDVersion value=200
This problem arises as the patch thinks that SP3 includes a better version of the patch itself and hence doesn’t install itself.
3. Download the latest drivers from the Intel website, navigate to the KB888111 patch.
4. But before installing the patch, goto your device manager and disable the UAA. Now uninstall the UAA.
5. Install your patch now.
6. Install the Realtek drivers now and things should work.
7. Change the SP version to 300 again.
If it didnt work, try once again. Hopefully Error 0xE000027 is fixed now.

select the socket 775 then look for the p5kpl board then look in the audio section and select the realtek driver

Have reinstalled winxp in my pc.but, now showing Kernal poroblm, and cant install realtek sound-reg

You could check in the Bios to see if your on board audio device is enabled. To get in to Bios press the Del key as the PC starts up but before Windows loads. Then pick Advanced from the options at the top of the bios screen. You should see something like this:
HD Audio Controller [Enabled]
Front Panel Support Type [AC97]
Onboard PCIEX 10/100Mb LAN [Enabled]
LAN Option ROM [Disabled]

If it disabled, enable it and save the settings, then reboot.

If you don't have the manual for the motherboard you can get it from the link below.

Also check here for latest Audio drivers:

H D Audio Driver fails to install

Have you checked to see if the driver is already installed, and the volume is just turned down? (Start> programs > accessories > entertainment > volume control) If so, try going into Device Manager (right click My Computer > properties > hardware > device manager) See if the sound card is showing up there as a yellow question mark or other error icon, it will stand right out. If it's there, right click, and uninstall it. Now (still in device manager) press the button that looks like a computer screen with a magnifying glass on it, that will scan for hardware changes and pick up the sound card, which windows includes the driver for automatically. If this still doesn't work, try downloading from realtek here, and installing that. Hope this helps.
