I had a problem with ref.compressor not starting, overload was kicking it out. Changed start/overload component and capacitor. It worked for a while. Checked comp. according to repair manual with ohm meter checked ok. If I turn off frig when it starts kicking out and let comp. cool down it works for a while. I called repairman out and he said it needs new compressor.Total cost $700.00 .Is this a fair price,or a waste of money.Fridge is only 7 years old. Hate to replace frig.
Good day,
That's on the pricey side, however, it is far more important who is doing the change out.
Replacing a compressor is the most challenging repair that can be performed on any appliance. The guy has to be top notch, and willing to take the time to perform the replacement properly.
Purging the system properly, installing high quality filter dryers, charging to the exact proper charge are just the tip of the iceberg when performing this operation.
You'll only receive a 1 year warranty on the replacement so a dedicated pro with a lot of experience should be a big factor in your decision.
It does sound like a system problem where the compressor is working too hard to cool the system therefore tripping out on its thermal overload. in my experience system repairs are expensive ($700 is alot) and i would normally advise upon a new purchase rather than let a customer pay for a fix that can last 13month then fail again. Sorry...
