I just opened up my AKAI 42 inch plasma (PDP42Z5TA) and found that it was an LG PDP42X3####. The TV powers on and the screen looks as if it was just showing a black screen, but no buttons work and the blue screen with AKAI logo doesn't show up like it used to.
There had been a buzzing sound coming from the right side of the set for the past 8 months while the TV worked fine. I recently tried plugging a coax cable into it, after that the current situation came to be.

Our LG 50" plasma tv screen went black after a popping noise but still had sound, after great diliberations decided to take the back off and have a peek!
We unplugged the tv and tested the fuses (there were three we could see) one had blown, the one on the left as you look at the back of the tv it also has one above it. We wrote the code/seriel number down and took the fuse to the electrical wholesalers Maplin and bought a pack of 10 fuses for £1.29 replaced the fuse in the tv and everything now fine!!!!!!
Hope this might be of use to anyone whose lost the picture after a loud popping/snacking noise but still has sound.

You have just found out why the plasma sets are fading from the market.
Both of you may have a power supply problem. The PS in plasma TVs is more complex than in LCD sets and therefore more likely to fail.
Since Akai is so poor on product support, they may not even have parts since that set was made by Samsung who also doesn't want to hear anything about them (their site doesn't recognize the Akai model number), you may be out of luck.
In researching Akai, I find large number of folks who will not buy any Akai anythings again.
This kind of performance is unusual for a Japanese company.
SOURCE: Akai PDP42Z5TA 42 in. Plasma base removal
I got it!!!!!
i just asemble my TV on the wall and it's pretty easy to remove the base.
there is 3 screws on the back of your tv. One is close to the botton (small screw). And the two others are hidden behind the support of the tv mount ( you will need to remove the support the comes with the tv mount to find these 2 screws) once you do that, the base comes out. ( you need to remove 3 screws on each side of the base.
Good luck!!!
My TV looks awesome on the wall.
