Router: DIR- 655 Firmware 1.31EU. I’ve had this router a couple of years. Suddenly two PC and one mobile lost their internet connection. I tried to connect directly via a cable to the cable modem, and I was able to access web pages. I’ve restored a configuration saved some months ago; Rebooted; Tried two different cables. Nothing works. BUT if I use VPN there is no problem, and my IP-phone adapter works.

SOURCE: Setup DIR-655 w/ Westell 6100 USB DSL Modem

First check if your computer can get on the modem with an Ethernet ( This is to find out if your router will work with your modem) If you cannot get on give your ISP a call to have them configure the modem for Ethernet connection. If you do get on then connect the router to the modem and your computer to the router. You can run the CD for the router or do the connection manually.

SOURCE: My DIR-655 won't work!

It would be helpful if you could be a bit more specific regarding the way you hooked up the dir 655 to your network and your specifc DSL modem. If the modem you are using is the Actiontec M1000 DSL modem you will not be able to obtain internet access because the DIR 655 is trying to route an already routed IP, the M1000 has a built in router / DHCP that by default is enabled. You can use option 1, access the configuration settings of your M1000 and change the WAN configuration to act as a transparent bridge. After doing so and rebooting the modem you will have to enter your DSL login information like a PPPoE username and password for example into your DIR 655 network settings. With this configuration the modem simply acts as a bridge to relay data directly to the DIR 655 and the 655 itself provides login credentials to obtain internet from your DSL provider as well as hand out IP addresses to the local network. Option 2 is to continue to use the M1000 as a router by default and disable DHCP on your DIR 655 so that it essentially acts as nothing more than a switch or wireless access point while the M1000 hands out local IP addresses. I personally would recommend using the DIR 655 to route IP's as it's got far more configuration utilities than the M1000 does as a router, and really what's the point of getting the 655 if you're only going to use it as a switch or access point when there are other simpler and cheaper devices that could do that for you.

SOURCE: CAN NOT GET INTERNET FROM DIR-655 TO NS7000S

Are you trying to set up the router. You can do it manually without the CD. Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem. If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first. If your computer is able to go online through the modem then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router. open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Try rebooting the router. Does your laptop "drop out" when connected to other networks?

The final solution is a factory reset of your router. You can do a factory reset by logging into the router using you browser. Go to the settings and perform a factory reset

If you forgot the router password, you ill have to do a factory reset by locating a small hold on the back of the router and insert the tip of of paper clip for about 10 seconds while the power is on. The router will be reset to out of box status and then you can ssets-up form scratch.

Base from the description of your problem this issue has something to do with the firmware of your router, so to correct the problem do a firmware upgrade on your router or if there's no updated firmware you just flash the firmware to it then check if the problem is already fix after doing that.

Intermittent internet disconnection, yet internet is fine

Please check the firmware of your router first. in most of the Wireless router the connection dropping issue is due to old firmware, also try chaning the wireless channel to 9 under the 2.4 GHz network to optimise the Wireless connection.

Need the driver for BIR-655

http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/239997/d-link-dir-655-wireless-router-firmware-v1.05-free-download.html
Near the middle of this page, just above the middle actually, there's a "driver download" section. Put in the code you see and hit enter and you should be directed to a download page. Everything should be pretty obvious from then on and your driver should be updated.

Dir 655 will not install

You should not need to enter any of that information.

The router will find the internet on it's own, once the ethernet cable is connected and the router is turned on.

Press the reset button at the back of the modem for 20-30 seconds, this resets the router to square 1. Power down, wait 30 seconds, then power back up. You should have internet connection to the router, which can be tested by connecting another ethernet cable from the router to the ethernet connector on your computer.

Reply back what your objective is in getting to the routers setup page.
