Access the setup page of router by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.

By default, leave the username blank and the password is admin.

Once on the setup page, go to Wireless. Under Basic Wireless settings, change the default SSID Linksys into any name. This will allow you to easily determine which is your wireless network.

Then go to Wireless Security and enable WEP. Type a passphase and click the generate button. Take note of the Network key. Remember that you will use this network key to all wireless computers.

On your wireless computer, view the available wireless networks or site survey. Select your SSID and enter the network key to connect.

I hope this helps!

SOURCE: Secure network becomes unsecure all of a sudden

Sounds like the battery that backs up this router's "firmware" and "programmable" memory settings may be going bad. Then again, it may not have a battery that does this. Perhaps the little reset button on the back is jammed in?

What is a dmz

DMZ is De-militarized Zone.
You can open all the port numbers for one particular IP address on your network. That means all the ports will be opened for that IP address.
All type of secured or unsecured data can be transferred and received to that IP address.

I want to unsecure my network, have problems with all computers ever since i secured netword

Go to you routers IP address from your web browser (try 192.168.1.1 if you don't know it) and put in either the default password for the router (leave username blank, password is "admin") or enter the password you set for the router (this is different from the network password you choose). You can disable security from here.

My Lynksys WRT54G has suddenly switched my wireless connection to a generic unsecured connection and away from my own setup. How do I fix this?

Please Enter the ip address of the router in internet explorer and go to wireless security. In that window we can change the the security and can give security pin.

Did a pc resolve on my desktop now no internet connection, cept on wireless not on desktop..says unsecured?

You may have forgot your network key (encryption key) but do you have your password for your router? if so you can use a wired connection to login and create a new encryption key. If you cant login to your router you will have to set it back to default and reprogram it

Secured connection is gone and all we have is Linksys unsecured

Next time try unplugging the router for 30-60 seconds then plug it back in. Should resolve minor glitches like this one.

Why does my wireless connection say unsecured

Because your connection is OPEN, in another words anyone can use your network if they have range to get connection. I recommend to set your connection as secure.

Wireless router connection unsecured

Open a browser and type in the address bar 192.168.1.1
It'll prompt you for a username and password, if you used the Linksys Installation CD, remember the username and password that you provided. Else, leave the username blank and key in admin for the password.

Once inside the router, click the Wireless Tab then the Wireless Security sub-tab.
Enable and choose WPA Personal and provide a password for your wireless network at the WPA Shared Key section.
Click Save settings at the bottom.

Your computers will need to reconnect to your network and asked for the security password.
