Hi, my ds lite charges fine. however, when i try to turn it on, nothing happens...
the green light doesn't even flash.
i have done a continuity test on both fuses f1 and f2, and they both seems fine.
L2 inductor also seems fine...
don't really know what the problem is.
please help.
Hi. Same thing happened to one of my friend's own. Also, when I shook it, I could hear
a slight rattle inside as if a small piece had broken off. I took it
apart and found that a small surface mount inductor had come off (it
was right by the on/off switch I believe). I was able to get it
soldered back on and added some glue for mechanical strength (since my
solder wasn't as good as original). This worked a while but it came off
again and I could never get it to stick and function again. Just
shorting the terminals with wire didn't work, it needs at least some
'L' impedance. So, I tried making my own. I took a very small wire-wrap
wire I had from my old college days, and wound it around a paperclip
about 10times, solder the ends on, and then removed the clip. (think of
tiny spool of wire with each end connected to solder pads). Believe or
not, it worked and has been fine ever since. Apparently the tolerance
for this circuit is pretty loose. FWIW.
Good luck. A fun project either way before giving up.
Take care
If there is still continuity and hardware is fine, maybe it was a software issue after all. You can try to reset the settings to the factory defaults by removing the cover of the battery compartment and reseat the battery. Make sure to allow at least 40 seconds to a minute before placing the battery back, otherwise it won't restore. Only one risk though, current data will all be gone and I'm pretty much sure you're aware of that. If all else fails, then the chipset of the console might have gone bad already.
Charging fine, i guess you mean the charge led orange indicates.. over 70% of such problems are due to faulty motherboard. I would advice you to first open unit and check for water damage and for any loose connections, check the flex cable. and since you have already tested the fuses, if all other are ok, then you have to either replace mother board or check here for further guide.

Hi there,
In this case, you can do a reset of the DS lite.
Take out the battery out of the
compartment at the back. You will need to take out the small screw to remove it.
Read more: How to Reset a Nintendo DS Lite | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/how_5017409_reset-nintendo-ds-lite.html#ixzz0rRixvAMA
Wait for at least 15 - 20 seconds to fully reset it.
Next, return the battery pack and turn on your DS Lite. It should come
up with a screen, "Before you begin, you must adjust system settings."
That's it!
Reseat both screen ribbon cables and the touch screen ribbon cable. My problem was a loose (but not comletely disconnected) touch screen ribbon connector.
I know you said you tested L2 but is the component right below L2 still on the board? I have had a couple dead DS Lites that have been dropped and that component has popped off. Sometimes it rattles around in the case and sometimes it will fall out and you won't notice it missing unless you you actually find it in the case.
Hi,
Did you also check L4 (at the other side of the mobo) and EM10 (sort of transformer)? I have the same problem with two consoles. They both fell once and I can't find the problem as well. In my case L4 and EM10 are ok, btw.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
There could be many reasons, a personal examination will reveal the exact reason. But by looking at you explanation and tests carried by you, it seems there could be a problem with your battery so insert another battery and see the result...
There may be a loose connection with battery. or there could be a hardware failure in your gadget with motherboard or IC...
These are common problem. personal examination will reveal the exact reason.
Hope this has helped you.
Thanks....
Try to measure the voltage of your built in battery there might be a problem. In many case charging indicator are displaying fine but the battery is not storing the current you need to replace your battery..next is plug in your ds lite and then remove the terminal of the charger connecting to the battery, using a voltage tester measure the output of the charger that connects to the battery whether there is a voltage coming out..The voltage must be a 12vdc or 9vdc.If there is a voltage output .this means that you need to replace the battery. If all this test are good, try to check the contact of your power switch.use your tester to measure the continuity of the contact point of the power switch.you can also clean the main board.Just open the enclosure of the unit and clean the main board using a paint brush.Check for any moisture that accumulates on the main board clean up corrosion of parts.Moisture develops specially if you are using your gadget to a sudden change of temperature from hot to cold...good luck hope I helped you..

One more thing you can try is to clear the flee power of the unit. To do this remove the battery and hold down the power button for about 60 seconds. Note you do not want to have the AC Adapter plugged in while doing this because we are trying to clear all the power off the unit.
Next you will want to plug in the AC Adapter and try to turn the unit on. If it will not turn on then you have a problem with the mainboard of the unit.
Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

So I guessing clearing the flee power did not fix the problem. Also if you have check the battery and the fuses know they are good then the only thing you can do is replace the mainboard.
If you look on ebay you maybe able to find some one who has on with a broken display that you can get the mainboard out of.
Let me know if you have any more questions

hi,
thanks for your answer, but i was really hoping that there would be another solution...
than replacing the main board.
they don't come cheap.

Hi. This is a common issue with Nintendo DS lite. But it should somehow give you an indication like green light will flash for a second. In you case, if there's is no green light. this could be a battery issue. Have you checked the battery or have you tried chaning it.
hi,
yes, i have tried with different batteries...without any luck...
i know its a common problem with the green light flashing briefly. a blown fuse or a loose ribbon cable causing it.
in my case its not lighting at all...nothing.
i have read somewhere else that if the green light doesn't flash at all, it is most likely a blown fuse(F2)???
i get confused...

Hi,
Since you have checked the fuses, and they seem fine as u said, You can also check the AC Adapter, if it is properly connected to the
main socket. check for blown fuses and replace if found any.
HOPE
THIS WILL HELPS.
If problem persist, that means main board is faulty, need to take it to your local repair shop around your area.
Take care.
hi,
thanks for your reply, but i know its definately not the ac adapter. it works fine on another ds lite.
thought this would be 'fixable'...you really think its a faulty main board?
if so, then how did this main board get faulty all of a sudden? i know its not water damaged.
please, i don't want to just bin this one...
thanks

Hi. Borrow a charger from a friend to test if you the your unit will power up using other charger.
Your charger may be supplying insufficient power to your unit not enough to properly charge your battery. You can also test your "charged" battery on your friend's unit to see if your charger is charging the battery.
Let me know the result so I can can think of other possibilities. Thanks.
Hi,
The battery might have run out, try get a new battery and replace the old battery with the new one.
Thanks for using Fixya.
Hi,
The issue is with your battery. Check if it works while you have it plugged in to the power. If it does work than for sure you need a battery replacement.
SOURCE: ds lite green light flshing pulse sound from speaker
Check if "L2" is in place. Ususally drop from its position in the circuit board near the power switch, is a little black piece with solder in 2 sides. And the symptoms are almost the same as the blown F1 and F2 fuses.
If you opened your DS and didnt found it or wasnt aware and lost it you'll need a parts circuit board to take it from and solder it to your board, as theres no known part specification or schematics for the DS, at least as I know the only way is using a Henry meter to get the L2 value.
And you might have a water damaged board or broken top screen ribbon cable too as for the tick sound from the speaker is new for me.
SOURCE: My DS Lite charges fine but it wont turn on not
Hi there, if it was a fuse the power light would turn on then off straight away, or when you plug the charger in the charge light will light up for a second then turn off again. I suspect it is the L2 inductor, take a look at my guide to see how to repair it -
