I have just bought a second hand Compaq 5185 keyboard and I would like to know how to configure the special top buttons. Some work, others don't.

Certain models of HP desktop computer come with an "Internet Keyboard" packaged in with the other equipment. This Internet Keyboard differs from a regular keyboard in that it has a series of buttons along the sides that allow you to do things like open your Web browser with the tap of a button. You can reassign the actions to these keys and reprogram it away from its default settings using your Control Panel.

Click "Start." Click "Control Panel." Click "Keyboard." Click the "Hardware" tab, then click the "Properties" button. Click the listing for the Internet keyboard key you want to change. In the "Target" box, select the program you want that key to open. Click "Apply." The specified key will now open the specified program. Repeat this step for all of the other keys on your Internet keyboard that you want to configure.

How do you enable ActiveX on hp pavillion 762c?

Try poking around on the hp website here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph06596&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=83487
Special buttons on keyboards require additional software and services to be running on the machine to detect when those buttons are pressed. If the keyboard came with the machine then that software and service is probably already installed and you just need to open the software to configure the keys.

Configuring internet buttons

Install the keyboard software that would have come along with the system and configure the buttons through the software. Mind you, not all buttons on the keyboard are configurable.
