Gateway MX6448 Notebook, Problem with sc adapter to labtop

I am having a problem with my labtop staying on.At first I thought it was just the ac adapter so, i bought a new one. It worked for a month and it is now not working. I have to put the cord into the computer and hold it up a little in order to get the pink light to come on. I know i need a new battery but can't afford it right now. Any ideas why i can't get it to stay on? Any suggestions on how to fix the problem? I tried to take the whole computer apart and couldn't get the bottom to come off. I took all the screws out and the black part still would not come off. I thought maybe where the ac plugs in had been pushed back but i couldn't get to it. I'm out of ideas! :/

Definitely sounds like you have an issue with your DC jack and it needs to be replaced/re-soldered. You can have this service done for you for probably around the $99 (USD) mark. Just Google your laptop model and "dc jack repair" and you'll get results.

As far as getting your board out, I would definitely look for more screws that actually go through the motherboard into the bottom of the case. Some are even hidden under the silver lining that is visible when looking at the motherboard.

Good luck from Darntoothysam.com

My gateway laptop will not hold a charge unless the power cord is jiggled and placed in ackward positions. i assumed it was the ac adapter, replaced it, and now im still having the same problem. does my...

it looks like the battery is already defective. try to remove the battery and use only the ac adapter. if your computer works fine using only the ac adapter, then the battery is already degraded and needs to be replaced.

Hi im using Gateway MX6448, initially i'm using Win XP and now i upgrade to Win 7, but i cannot find display Driver? Can U Help me, Urgent.

I checked the Gateway download site and only found the two video drivers listed on this page:

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?ref=step&st=browse&platform=10022&model=10886&os=10405&type=10083

You can try these and if they do not work, I can only suggest that you get on your support site and chat with a technician to see if they have windows 7 drivers for your notebook that are not posted on their support site.

Gateway MX6448 Broken hinge mount

They are probably available at: http://www.mundocorp.com/mx6448.html but this is not a task for a DIYer.

Unless you have the tools/experience to dis-assemble / re-assemble, I strongly recommend you have repaired by a competent shop or contact me ([email protected]) pls reference this response.

The biggest removable door held on by about 6 screws on the bottom of your laptop is what you need to remove. Once inside you will see your heatsink! Very easy to access, I wish you luck.

Replacing the whole monitor screen and bezel

Usually there is a plastic cover that snaps off right about the keyboard that covers the hinges. It is sometimes screwed from the bottom of the notebook thought. Once that is removed you should have a clearer view of what needs to be done. Sometimes there is a few screws from the bottom or back of the system that hold the hinges and sometimes the screws are on top of the hinges. You should also see all the cables that go from the screen to the system, unplug those. Hopefully that is all you need to do, but sometimes you have to remove the keyboard and palmrest to get the screen off. Good Luck!
